Apparently we're 2 years away from a full human body transplant (or head transplant depending on how you look at this).

Heads Up

The thing that puzzles me is, if you are sick enough to need a whole new body from a recently dead donor, where's the gain? Presumably the donor either died of ill health themselves or was killed in an horrific accident.

Could this lead to a 21st century Burke & Hare, procuring beautiful bodies for the obscenely rich but sick?

All the same..... Puke

China has only just stopped beating its wife organ harvesting.

Or rather, says that it's going to, while highlighting the problem they've got with organlegging.

Why don't they just buy them fair and square from us?

Yeah, lets ignore the facts and just presume guilt anyway... Why on earth would you try and save a life if you could.

Since it's kidneys and liver, will they have a big fry up at the end of the week so they don't waste any?

Oh I guess not..

It is understood that the livers transplanted into foreign patients at King’s would otherwise have been discarded.

How 'fresh' should the donor body be? Finding a use for corpses could be of quite some benefit to myself. Intrigued, I am.

That's a Telegraph article though, they're notoriously biased in favour of Johnny Foreigner.

An Italian doctor says it "could" happen in the next couple of year?

Top reporting Telegraph, that's a great source of information.

Until we have live in Futurama style jars, I'm not interested.

I guess 'you' exist in the brain - ergo, where the brain goes, the 'person' goes.

I'd have thunk that the just as big news here is that they feel they can repair severed spinal chords within 2 years?

They transplanted the head from one monkey body to another years ago. Just the essentials connected and spine not reconnected fully but...
The monkey lived for 9 days and screamed every moment of it.

Joking aside, I was wondering about all the work on spinal columns and how they are going to fix all hose. there are loads of people who could benefit from the spinal stuff, not the head bit, just basic spinal repairs.

What has changed in technology and skills that we can't put in place now?

If you've got the nerve, search head transplant on YouTube. I was going to post links but they'd be NSFW.

Mind you, I'm not sure all of them are genuine, in one, the surgeon is smoking a pipe. Does that actually happen?

As we speak, someone is putting a reminder in their calendar for two years from now.
