So after years of ridicule it is now standard on BCF to encourage people to use Muffs for winter riding so they stay warm although lose fashion points. Are we able to take the next step and encourage people to use aprons on their bikes to keep their lower limbs warm?

I will start this one, next month I will be placing an order for a Bagster bike apron for my Deauville at a cost of £110ish.

I realise there is little availability for big bikes but they do make them for various touring BMW's, Honda's among others and you can of course use the old BCF ingenuity to modify 2nd hand ebay ones to fit. So who else is prepared to fit an apron to their bike?

What are you, gay?

Pass the popcorn

But no, I used muffs because I like warm hands and the ability to hold a cup when I get to work, I'll just drive this year, so you are on your own sir Laughing

if you find one that fits on an R1 let me know, I have to wear leggings then work trousers then waterproof trousers in the heart of winter just to keep my legs warm at max speeds of 30mph.
A bike apron would be perfect as it was perfect when i had my vespa.

Winter is coming.....................................................

I'm trying a heated waistcoat this year. I'm seeing how long I can hold out against installing the muffs with a warmed core, heated grips and quality lobster claws on my hands. (I suspect I won't hold out long.)

I'm way passed any fashion sense, but I don't like the slight delay in getting both hands on the bars when I have muffs. I don't have anything in particular against the blanket, but my lower half doesn't seem to get that cold. My commute is about 30-40 minutes in the morning and an hour on the way home (at much slower speeds), so I'm probably not on the bike long enough for the cold to seep through the overtrousers and jeans.

Would imagine it'd be a bit off putting on some types of bikes, but perhaps not Thinking

I've been out in -3 to -5 temps for a few hours and been fine so far, just go all out on the layers

It's fashionable to ridicule anything that doesn't make you a well'ard biker. Use whatever you like it it makes your journey more comfy.

It's better than rheumatoid arthritis.

We're not Klingons or Japanese, there's no actual honour in suffering. I'd cheerfully use one if I had a longer commute - and I may have, come winter proper.

Sadly, they don't do them in tartan. Sad

But they do do them for various models of GS650's luckily. Just put some tartan paint on it Wink

I'm on the new F650GS twin, it's essentially the F800GS with some excessively annoying naming. Better believe that I'm checking if the manly sounding "Gaucho Termoscud" will fit.

Neat idea, I'll also ask for the long stand while I'm buying that. Thumbs Up

Is an apron one of those sheet things that makes you look like a toddler in their pram?

I wouldn't think any less of anyone wearing one! Nothing worse than going somewhere and needing a piss only to struggle aiming as there isn't much to get hold of anymore!

Urgh.

BMW marketing: up to 2007, F650GS was the single cylinder 650. From 2008 on onwards, F650GS refers to the twin cylinder 798cc "roadified" version of the new F800GS (and that's the one I have). In 2011, they then re-introduced the single cylinder 650, but this time calling it the G650GS.

That apron would probably fit, they're quite similarly sized. But what I really want is one listed for the F800GS, which I'm not immediately finding.

I do actually want one, even for short trips, as those are exactly the trips where I just want to jump on and go without doing the will-it-won't-it-better-put-on-the-waterproofs dance.

To put you off more, the original horse riding chaps were more like this - a sort of leg covering which was attached to the saddle rather than the rider.

Be interested to see how well they work.

I presume they're flexible and thus will press against your legs?

Seems to make mores sense on a scooter where they can work like a good muff and trap a layer of reasonably static air around you.

The Tucano Gauchos have inflatable bits in them to help with that. R119s fit the GS.

I'm fairly tempted, the waterproofing on my RST trousers has had it, and they're cheap compared to Goretex replacements. I really like the idea of being able to just go out in my kevlar jeans or even work trousers.

However, I would like to see how they work in practice, I can't grok how the feet go in and out quickly.

Mockers can mock, any idiot can be cold and wet. Hand
