Hi all,

My throttle grip is loose in that I can turn it back on itself from its natural resting position by about half an inch.

I've taken the cable housing off , no issues in there with unseated cables, kinks etc.

I've tightened the accelerator cable (deccelerator cable has been removed) and it makes no difference. Because I have tightened the cable to the point where the revs start to increase by themselves and yet the throttle grip is still loose am I right in thinking that the looseness is down to something else?

Any ideas what it could be?

Kawasaki GPZ 500 S

Cheers

Look at the other end of the throttle cable. Is the looseness in the grip independent of the actuation at the other end?

You really should have two cables going to the throttle tube. If the cable sticks or the spring return snaps, will you have the presence of mind to pull the clutch? How long will it take for you to get over the surprise of no engine braking? A second of misjudgement is enough for an accident.

Yes the looseness appears to be independent of any movement at the carb end.

Its a good point and to be honest I only realised it was missing when I took the switch/cable housing apart last weekend. Presumably it would be a "close" cable I'd be after, something like this ?

I don't think I'd want to risk it without both the push and pull cables. I've had it before where I've throttled off and forgotten to turn fast idle off...
