Alright, now no sniggering from the back, Honda CG125.

But it rocks!

Working my way up the ladder slowly. 1 step at a time.

Actually, can anyone recommend any good insurers fopr new riders...Bennetts want £300. for TPF&T Can anyone aim me anywhere cheaper?

C) DId you include commuting on your "Use" section?
D) Did you buy online?

Nice bike dude..mine's red, and obviously that's the only bit my girlfriend has noticed..."Oooh" she said, "A red one, how nice."

www.insurance2000.co.uk (H&R Insurance) and a few others will let you use your car NCB if you have any and want to risk it on a bike.

I've used H&R for a few years and they have always been spot on, only beaten by Honda this renewal. Thumbs Up

Danny?

Clearly London criminals are far superior in their pikey ways than West Midlands one's.

Bennetts wanted 296
Motorcycle direct wanted 496

I put in pretty much exactly the same info as you, and its ONLY for me, no partner included. I have no convictions, no problems, no insurance claims against me, its safely parked away from the road, in a private locked car park, and has security devices and locks fitted. The only way it could be safer would be if I took it to pieces and hid it in secure boxes in the Bank of England...and STILL they want that much. Man there has to be something out there that isn't going to cost me more than the bikes value for gawd's sake!

Still struggling for good companies....all suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Carole Nash wanted £400 off me !!

I have it locked to a ground anchor in the back garden...off-road.

Good luck with the hunt!

Try Mitchells in Archway, tel 0207 272 2661.

Can't be sure how competitive they are, but they are EXTREMELY helpful. My boyfriend who has been a courier for YEARS in London and lost his licence on a 1 year ban got turned down by Carole Nash, but Mitchells accepted him straight off (possibly cos he's been with them for ages) it wasnt cheap (as you might expect after a ban) but they agreed to insure him when my own insurers (and Carole Nash) wouldn't.

Carole Up Their Own Arse Nash: ("Ew, no he's unemployed and coming off a drinkdrive technicality ban").

Yes, dear, thats WHY he's unemployed, and if you insured him, he might manage to JUST about pay your poxy premiums.

Try Honda Direct for insurance There is nothing wrong with a CG125 as a first bike, it is a good place to start at, will go for miles on a drop of petrol, won't need much maintainance etc.

That's what I reckoned.
My brother wants to go straight from NOT BIKER, to 1000cc owner super rider. I'm trying to break the news to him about the cost and the insurance and the lessons and the experience and the risk and so on and on and on. But he's a brother. Younger too...not too keen on listening to older (yeah, ok, risk free and boring) bro...but I'm happy with a 125.
See what happens.
Cheers. Tober

You'd know about insurance costs if you lived in Northern Ireland. For my MT50, the insurance cost about 2/3rd more than the bike was actually worth.

I really like the look of it...it isn't pretending to be something bigger or cooler .......it just....is Smile

I will stick with mine for about 2 years then go for a 500 I think....finances allowing Wink

Yay, another CG Smile
Becomes a bit less embarrassing when you know lots of other people ride them too Wink
How old is yours? I have a venerable '89 model, 80's styling, kick-start and all. Marvellous.
Mine's insured with Bennetts, for around the £300 mark, but a word of warning, their administration is so poor that they still haven't managed to get the original policy documents out to me (this is 5 weeks now), just a few 'replacement' documents they seem to have picked at random. They're due another phone call and shouting at tomorrow, getting to be a regular thing Confused

Best wishes
Rich

I have heard this from a few people about Bennetts taking a while with documentation...

They were A class for me.....we applied on line and over the phone too on late Wednesday afternoon.......my cover note got to the bike dealer Friday morning...my paperwork arrived the Saturday Thumbs Up

I guess all companies have bad stories

Good to know re Bennett's.
Got the best quote from them and think I'm gonna take it.

Always wary of bas**rds that take money for nothing (see also lawyers! Evil or Very Mad).

Nearly going...nearly...!
