Morning chaps,

The other evening I missed a gear at speed (4th to 5th) which resulted in a lot of revving, unexpected loss of speed and brown trousers.

A little further up the road when I was slowing down I noticed a lot of burbles and backfires on the overrun which never normally happens. Just wondering if there's a simple explanation? Bike's running fine now. 2000 SV650 in case it makes a difference.

Thanks muchly Smile

Haha, wouldn't surprise me! Shit maself both when it suddenly stopped moving forward and when the burbling happened though. Was wondering if it's just coz it was hotter than usual? Hadn't taken the poor thing further than the 9 miles to work for ages...

Burbling on the overrun indicates excess fuel in the exhaust. Nothing to worry about so long as it goes back to normal afterwards.

Getting false neutral is mostly a result of riders fault. You have to shift the gears firmly and with certainty. I think you just did not move the gear shifter all the way, firmly enough. Some gearboxes are made better than others and older they are, worse it usually gets.

I run 1 up, 5 down pattern since the CB-1, stepping on the lever is ''easier'' than lifting it, when at pace. When downshifting, it feels very assuring, when you lift the gear lever during intense braking.

But, what ever suits you, if the bike runs alright now, I wouldn't worry. Smile

Yup, not trying to suggest it's the bike fault that I missed a gear! Just seemed odd that it happened. Guess the not gonna break verdict is what I was most hopeful for!
