Hi,

I need to rent a jacket, pants, gloves and a helmet for the weekend. Where in London (preferably but not necessarily in the down town area) could I do that? Do you guys know or can recommend any shop?

Go to Lidl/Aldi (just been discussed to death on here) and buy their cheap stuff. You'll always need spare gear even if you replace it with good stuff later.

Probably won't cost much more than it would cost if you managed to find someone to hire you some stuff.

Why not? ...

I will be picking up my new motorcycle but my new gear has not arrived yet and won't do so probably until July.

This shop here offers rentals but it's a little too far away for me:

I'll check out Lidl

I've heard of skimping on postage but are they walking over from a Chinese factory?

Kinda, I asked for a special type of delivery where they package it up in a new type of foam which is almost a liquid and makes sure that it doesn't get shaken too much on transport. It costs abut 300 Pounds extra but it's worth it. It really makes sure the fabric stays in mint condition. Unfortunately they don't have this foam it in large quantities so I have to wait a little.

............. no. I am just going to order the new version of the Klim Latitude jacket which hasn't come out yet but will come out around July or maybe June. That's why.

Shopping for 2nd hand stuff on gumtree could be a good alternative too although getting good deals is more about luck

A motorcycle jacket that is so fragile it needs special packaging wont be much good. They're designed to be ok when you fall off onto tarmac at 70mph(ahem)

Garbage in, garbage out.

If you want helpful suggestions, you'd do better by explaining the problem.

For example, if you're just looking to have the bike moved from a dealer to your home, then it might be cheaper to just pay the dealer to deliver, invite a friendly BCFer to cane the arse off of it ride it carefully back for you, or even just borrow some gear. Many of us have spares.

Being sarcastic really helps with that.

No, it actually does, we like that round here. Whistle

It's really just about the jacket and the pants but still I get what you are saying and will do as you suggest. Having spare clothing is never wrong so I'll get some cheap stuff from Amazon.

I'm getting these pieces:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KI846TU
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001M1F5J2
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00GMREWD6
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B5VJ6YY

edit: I just saw your post above. Thanks for the idea but I will still go with this option of buying cheap gear.
Thanks!

That not cheap! I use gear cheaper than that on my year round commutes! If it's just as a back up/one-off use then you can get better bargains online or as suggested Gumtree/ebay.

Haha, what!? Very Happy
It get's cheaper than that?

I honestly don't want to buy used stuff because I never know why it was sold. Might be broken. After all I am buying it for my safety so I don't want to be THAT cheap and take a risk that way.

Plus where do I get a cheaper (not used) helmet than 30Quid?
Cheaper gloves than 15Quid?

Honestly I am really going after good Amazon ratings. I do appreciate it when people are happy with it. I do put some trust in that. Might be stupid.

But really where do I find cheaper Pants and Jacket than under 50Quid each?

The ones I chose at least have Cordura material an are not completely "random". They do follow some standards which, again is why I am wearing it. I do want a certain level of protection or else I could just risk driving without any protection if I think it wont be terribly important because nothing wont happen and it's just backup clothing.
Does that make sense?

Do you have any links to even cheaper clothing?

Gumtree, used. But then you have to deal with Gumtree sellers. That gear looks fine. Be aware that helmet fit is critical though, so be careful about buying without trying.

hi,
when i got back into bikes after a long gap, i bought a cheap "all in one kit" think it was from m&p or somewhere similar.
was jacket, trousers, helmet, boots & gloves, all black & all reasonable quality. (10yrs later i still have the buffalo jacket that i keep as a spare)
couldnt see any such offers available now but gostbikes have a few jacket & trouser options like this https://www.ghostbikes.com/10775-armr-moto-kiso-jacket-black-gun-and-free-hara-trousers.html#var1=Black%2520Gun

cheers,
GAZ
