Mostly harmless good! Peds are way down on last year, litre+ bikes are flat, but 51-1000cc are all up, with a big rise in 651-1000cc.

A great month for Yamaha, with the MT-09 Tracer seeing off the R1200GS in Adventure Sports, and the big-margin MT 125 coming top in nakeds.

Honda mostly have to make do with winners in the 125 categories, although the CB650F did shine in 126-650. A bit of a grubby shine though, with just 29 units sold - 690-850 looks to be the new 600, brought to you by the letters 'M' and 'T'.

Lexmoto, Direct Bikes and SYM sneak in to the top 10 by default for February. BMW came 3rd, with Triumph have a relatively poor month, and KTM a good one. Kawasaki are still hanging in there, but the least said about Suzuki the better.

It always surprises me that Suzuki struggle to break the top ten. Why is that? Crap bikes, prices, or because they don't really make 125s (not that BMW and Triumph do)?

Ageing models.
Relatively expensive finance.
Poor retained value (it's cheaper to ride an R1200GS on PCP finance than a V-Strom 1000).
There's always a better deal next month - they do tend to make an appearance when they've got a proper sale on.

And yes, I think the lack of commuter/sports 125 offerings does hurt them.

I am properly astonished that Suzuki UK hasn't 'restructured' already, and can only assume that they run a tight ship and it's dealers and new purchasers that are getting hammered by their constant price fiddling.

Maybe Suzuki are committing all resources to Moto GP 2015, and that is what they are pinning their hopes on to revitalise the range once they get wins and trophy's?

It didn't do Yamaha any harm who 12years ago were also rans, but it was far more than racing success that made Yamaha's full of win, though it must have gone a long way to help!

It's surprising to see a Chinese Marque in above brands like Triumph and more so Kawasaki and Suzuki in new sales, but it's a sign of the times that we want cheap commuters for our 2nd car's, and for the 17yr olds that just need to get around for a year or so before Uni, or 2-3years until they can get into a car which is what teen Motorcyclists must generally aspire to these days?

Could we have seen any Chinese brands in the top ten sales figure's even 5years ago though?

It's fucking criminal how little choice of good Japanese and European 125's we have now, and also they are either silly price like the Aprilia RS4 125, or shoddy and built cheapo like the CBF's etc.

Back in 95, I remember reading the Yamaha broachers and seeing about 8-10 100-125cc bikes and scoots in the range. And I bet 5 or 6of them were really quite desirable too!

I was in local Triumph dealer after the London Bike Show. I'd assumed that the release of new models / updates that punters saw at the bike show would translate to footfall in the shop, but no. It had been "very quiet".

I was then going to conclude that maybe Triumphs ever increasing prices have finally priced themselves out, but KTM disprove that theory.

It's just a slightly soft month for Triumph, I wouldn't read too much into it. They're still selling pretty well.

Or silly priced and shoddily built, like the Duke 125. Wink
