They were aimed at the same market as the RS125 and the Mito. They were first launched as the SP01 in about 1989, then evolved through the SP02 and Crono to the GFR125. They were officially imported for a short while then Piaggio closed Gilera down as the Italian sports 125 market was collapsing.
Performance wise they are a bit slower than an RS125 of the same age (although the PB road test said that the power delivery made it feel faster). Brakes are not bad (same caliper as the RS on the front, just badged Gilera). Frame is steel. They use a VHSA32 carb.
