Too cheap to keep the candles lit at Norton Towers.

I looked at, poked, prodded and sat on a load of Nortons at MC Live the other week.

I was underwhelmed and disappointed, brand over substance.

Feels like you are paying big money for a brand name with the sole purpose of funding Stuart Garner's lifestyle.

All these essentially sentimental Brit bike brands are a massive waste of cash. If the investors for the likes of Norton, Ariel etc all got together and abandoned these bits of fluff and put their combined investment capital into something more on the lines of what Triumph do then we might have a Brit bike brand that's worth making a fuss over. I say this as someone who actually likes that Lotus bike, which is probably the fluffiest of fluffy specials out there.

I really don't see the point of these.. if your passionate about these types of bikes, then buy the original for less than half the price.
Okay, so maybe the old boys cant kick over a Commando or something alike, but plenty of places do electric starts for most british bikes.

You could have an original bike, with history, with lots of modern parts to make it an every day bike for half the price, and the value always going to creep up, and you don't look like a wannabie.

I agree. If you have the money for a garage queen like that them get something genuinely special.

For 20 odd K I'd want a bit more than a pushrod twin.

Then you're not the target market.

The performance and technology of these bikes is essentially irrelevant.

How about one of these for the same price. I know it's like comparing an exotic fruit to a potato but still...

The Norton Dominator was a hooligan machine for the youth of the 70s. It has multiple spiritual sucessors. The BMW s1000rr, the Yamaha R1M and the Ducati 899.

Building bikes in the 50s and 60s, for the youth of the 70s?

They say that used Domiracers go for around 40,000 pounds. So, I think the Dominator will also be a good investment. On the other hand, the Ducati will lose its value rather quickly. Thumbs Up

Norton seem to be attempting to be a British Harley, appealing to the rich upper middle-aged with nostalgia for an era that never really existed.

Compared to the other recent styling exercises we've been slagging off I think it's a good effort, bearing in mind the target audience. If I was loaded and looking for a Sunday afternoon toy to ride to the Dog & Duck wearing turn-up drainpipe jeans and a white open face helmet & goggles I'd go for it.

I really like it, very pretty.

But I'm not the target market as the price is way out of my league.

Looking at it from the point of being motorbike, all that dosh to buy a bike that would be fighting to stay in front of a well-ridden er6 simply doesn't make sense however if you're buying it for 'pose value' or as an investment (while waiting for another 'rose-coloured specs' type with too much money) then it's probably worth it.

True, but nobody's going to commute on it or do a grand tour of Africa.

How about simply ride it for more than twenty minutes at a time? Big ask? Probably, given that gestural effort.

I'm not expecting plush. I'm not asking for comfortable. I *am* after adequate. And that cursory sliver of foam is risible.
