Well I have just got back from my first ride on the Hornet. I didn't realise you could have so much fun with your clothes on! I have to admit I didn't go too high in the revs after reading how they go once you reach 7000 so tried to keep it below, but hell even below it goes like a woman at a shoe sale! The power is so controllable and the bike is so agile it was a pure pleasure to ride. Very very smooth after a 'V' twin too. i did have a bit of a problem with the revs being so high (as I am used to the slow Virago engine revs) and the gear change was so smooth I wasn't sure if it had changed and just what gear I was in! I have to admit to stalling it a couple of times pulling away as it wasn't in first.
I did find the gear change lever a bit difficult as I kept catching my boot on the linkage but am sure I will get used to this. I got on ok with the riding position and found it pretty comfortable but did notice you can 'feel' the road more through the bars and it seems to have a tendency to 'fall' into the corners, not a bad thing just takes a bit of getting used to. As for the acceleration for overtaking.....WOW! I won't have to think about it much on this machine as it just pulls and pulls. Everyone's description of the ride was spot on and it has put a big grin on my face. Thanks guys.
Oh better show you some pics of the machine in question then. It is a 98 600 with 14,000 on the clock. Fitted with full stainless exhaust, rear hugger, carbon indicators, uprated headlight bulb and just in case crash bobbins. |
