Which Scottish Island should I try?

Hello first post on the site and I've already got loads of good info but hoping for some more!

I've got a week in early May and I've been to Skye on the Glenelg ferry a couple of times before by car, It's pretty much my favourite road out of all the touring I've done and I want to do it on my bike. Thing is I've never been to Orkney and can't decide to do this instead or perhaps do lewis and Harris and try the ferry from stornoway to Ullapool. Any opinions on which is the better island for riding (bike) wise?

They're both ok, not very fast, for riding.

They're different and both worth seeing.

You can make a nice run up to Orkney if you take the gills bay ferry.

Also Shetland. Awesome roads on Shetland. Ferry from Aberdeen.

Thought all self respecting weegies hot footed it over to the big T nowadays? Something about Tax free JD sports at the airport. Back to the Islands if I do every route I've planned on the satnav I'll be there 3 months!

Especially if you go over in late June and take in the Simmer Dim rally.

The island of Aran is worth a visit, small but perfectly formed, great camp site at seal bay just watch out for the sea otters raiding your tent at night ! Shocked

Road surfaces are astoundingly shoddy in places though. I went last year and the road up across the middle knocked shit out of both me and my bike.

You can make your return journey across to and back up the Mull of Kintyre though. That's a pretty special road.

Skye is a bit more of a tourist trap making things a bit more expensive and filling it full of the tartan and shortbread tourist shite when complared to other Islands.
Mull is worth a look and can be accessed from Lochaline resonable cheaply.
Orkney is worth a look. Lots to see and great roads.
If you have a bit more time visit the Outer Hebrides. You can do an Island Rover ticket but it worked out cheaper (for the route I done) for me to just buy tickets on the day.
