Right now I know the vehicle tax law has changed and you can't transfer the tax on a vehicle to a new owner now.....(fine, another way of making money from the poor motorists yet again Rolling Eyes) After buying another bike i went online to tax it only to be notified that I had to do it at the post office as I didn't have the reminder code? So my question is this: What happens if you buy the vehicle and want to ride it home? You can change the insurance online with no problem but you can't the tax?? So this means that unless you get the vehicle delivered (Which I had) or have a van to collect it you can't take the vehicle there and then! This is progress! Rolling Eyes

You don't need the reminder number if you have the V5c and the Registration

would still show up as taxed as v5 takes a couple of days to arrive at dvla and be changed

so you can still ride it and not worry then go into a post office at first chance

When you buy the new vehicle take the new keeper slip (green bit you get as a receipt) straight round to the post office.

You don't need to take anything else. Thumbs Up

Not necessarily, we've had several people report that they couldn't buy VED online.

As noted though, until they finally get around to allowing change of keeper online, the VED doesn't magically get cancelled on change of owner, so go ahead and ride it home, or 50 miles to the nearest unclosed post office.
