Just got the V5 for my bike through the post and it has the wrong name on it. Not vastly different, just Alan Bloggs instead of Alex Bloggs.

I've had a look about via Google, some suggest to just leave it but they're for mistakes like Andy instead of Andrew, or Tom for Thomas.

Got my Mod 2 in a week so was planning on having it taxed, insured and ready to go for the day, but can I tax and insure it if it's in a different name?

Cheers

I don't think anybody will care.

You don't get ID'd to tax a vehicle. Examiner will want to know that you are insured, MOT, Tax, not that you own the vehicle.

I'd get it corrected. Being slightly wrong gives your insurer the opportunity to get shirty (post claim, of course) that it's not in your name when you told them that you were the owner and keeper.

Flipside is that it's probably not wrong enough to get you off traffic offences. So either have it right, or have it Hugh Janus.

Aye I do think it's best to get it corrected. Would I be able to tax and insure it and then get the DVLA to change the name or would I have to change it before I can do anything?

Sure.

VED, they just want your money.

Insurance won't be an issue unless you have a claim, by which time it'll be sorted, or in the process of.

Just make sure it is filled in as a name change/correction, not change of keeper (which would trigger a refund of your tax and increment the keeper count).

Same happened to me, just fill in the change of details, not the new keeper bit and send it back. Possibly take a photocopy first for peace of mind. You will also receive junk mail addressed to the wrong name.

If it's come back with Mr Dick Head on the logbook I'd leave it and actually go out of my way to get stopped and checked out by the cops Smile

If I recall correctly, the law changed a few years ago so minor errors that did not make a significant difference to the insurance no longer allowed the the insurers to fuck you for it. I will attempt to set the pet law student on it when she is not asleep.
