Thought we should try and cobble together the FAQ so... work in progress, feel free to add...
What do I need to do a trackday?
An ACU approved helmet (one with a gold sticker on it)
One piece leathers or 2 piece that zip together all the way round
Pair of gloves and boots without laces.
Do I need a full licence to do a trackday?
<Enter debate here>
What are these groups all about?
Trackdays generally work in three groups - novice, intermediate and fast. It's up to you to choose the group to suit you, sometimes you can move up or down during the day but there's no guarantee. Track riding is very different to road riding - you might think you're quick but if it's your first track day, novices is the place for you!
What will I need to do to my bike?
Not much. Obviously your bike needs to be in good working order and be safe - that means checking your brakes, tyres and so on. Provided that is the case, all you really need to do is fold back / tape up / remove your mirrors (so you aren't distracted) and go for it.
Dropping your tyre pressures is a good idea, as they get very hot. Crash mushrooms are always a good investment, reasonably sticky tyres, maybe even cheap track bodywork if you start getting 'into it'. But basically you can ride there, do a trackday and ride home.
I want to do a trackday but I'm worried about being slow.
It's called the novice group for a reason. You go at the speed YOU are comfortable with and sod everyone else. Most companies offer hi-vis vests for the more nervous, so that the other riders give them room on the overtakes - use them.
Bored now, will continue later. |
