How long does it take? Preparing to do the DAS and need this renewed but I'm not sure if I need to wait til I've received my new license.

As far as I am aware I think you can replace a lost driving license and still drive til you get the card, so is it the same here?

I think you will need both physical parts of your license. Especially when it comes to test time.

Not too sure about turn around time though, when I passed it took about 2 weeks to come back.

Main question though is if I renew it online and get on my bike before I receive my license am I doing so illegally?

Just to confirm, do you have a CBT and riding on provisional license?

If you're riding on a provisional and it's out of date, then I would assume so.

Yep CBT got. I was actually riding for at least two months with it expired and had no issues. Lucky I know.

I want someone to tell me as soon as it's renewed online I can ride but I know that will most likely not be the case. Sad

When I renewed my provisional at the post office, they gave me a type of covering letter/note/piece of paper so that I could still legally ride until my new provisional came through, even though it was around 2 months out of date. Laughing However, this was isle of man rules, so not sure if the same applies in the UK, with its much more authoritah.

When I sent off for my UK provisional, it arrived in about 10 days.

any liecnce does not need to be renewed till your 70 birthday, for car or bike, and only then you need to provide DVLA with a medical report from a doctor saying your fit to drive. (unless you had been banned and are applying for it back)

If your talking about renewing your CBT you need to book it with a look motoring school, and you get the cert the same day

Current provisional licence expires after 10 years (UK) and after 2 years (IoM).

EDIT: It appears that in the UK the licence doesn't expire but, you have to update the photo part after 10 years.

Quite. I'm assuming that OP's current photocard license has expired. I'd just order a replacement and go ahead and ride - in practice you've got 7 days to produce a new copy.

However, you'll need to do so for any tests, and training schools are likely to want to see it too.

well then unless DVLA allow you to upload a passport sized photo of yourself, I think OP has been driving around without a CBT.

Edit, DVLA will allow you to use your passport photo, if you have a passport! I don't know much about DVLA services online as I have a lorry liecence I can only ever do anything though forms and have royal mail get some bussiness¬!!!!

I disagree, op made a thread not a few weeks ago asking for advice for a new class A2 ride, so unless op had a driving liecence since he was 9years old, or was asking for someone else....

I thought your provisional licence expired after 5 years? If that is the case then op may have his cbt which he states a few posts above but needs to renew his licence. In which case I would have thought no he is not allowed to ride a bike as he technically has no licence now.

Or I am currently organising my DAS, whilst renewing my provisional, due to previous medical issues that means I need to renew it after 3 years. Razz Getting a bike for when I pass hence the thread weeks ago.

Thanks for the advice, phoned DVLA to double check and I need to post it to apply again and can't drive in the meantime. :/

Then you would need to produce both parts of the liecence for any lessons, you will take(if any) to your instructors and will need to produce both parts to the examiner when you take your mod(1,2)
