Thought I'd post this in the workshop, rather than my project thread, more people might see it and find it of some use.

One of the foot pegs on my project bike needed a bit of attention, the rubber bush inside the mount was missing, you cannot buy this part as a separate item, being a tight wad there was no way I was buying another footpeg, before I'd had a go at bodging a repair, myself.
A quick Google revealed that fuel/radiator hoses didn't come in the right combination of OD's & ID's.

I have done a lot of woodturning in the past so my plan was to turn a rubber doorstop down to the correct dimensions.
I don't have a lathe, at the moment, so my plan was to improvise with an electric drill.

A 50p rubber doorstop, from the local ironmongers was my starting point:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/XL125RC/Bush%2001_zpstwwcq2hc.jpg

The diameter of the internal metal bush was 11.5mm so, for a tight fit, I drilled a 10mm hole through the doorstop and pressed the metal bush through it:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/XL125RC/Bush%2002_zpsj4zf67vd.jpg

Next step was to mount the doorstop on a mandrel, (an 8mm bolt, nut and washers), and mount the whole lot in an electric drill, clamped in a workmate:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/XL125RC/Bush%2003_zpsfuei9lsj.jpg

Next I made a temporary tool rest and fixed that to the workmate, the tool rest has to leave the tip of the chisel on the center line of the piece you're working on:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/XL125RC/Bush%2004_zpsraxuym2e.jpg

An old wood chisel should do the job:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/XL125RC/Bush%2005_zps756lw05v.jpg

Verniers set to the diameter I need to achieve:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/XL125RC/Bush%2007_zpsdfidsh0b.jpg

Correct OD of bush:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/XL125RC/Bush%2008_zpstmk1y45l.jpg

Bodgtastic bush in place and the remains of doorstop:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/XL125RC/Bush%2009_zpshjqbrpau.jpg

Whole thing took about quarter of an hour, and I have to say I'm pretty chuffed with it.

If anyone is thinking of doing something similar, please remember the following:-
It is, extremely, important that the tool rest is as close to the work piece as possible.
Take small cuts, don't try and remove loads of material in one go.
Keep your chisel as sharp as possible, (my chisel blunted a lot quicker, on this, than I expected).
You do not need a high RPM, on the drill, to get this to work.
Wear some eye protection!
Be warned it is easy to lose your fingers doing this sort of thing!

Where I can see that being very useful is for when you loose the petrol tank mounting rubbers.

I shall store that in my bodgeopedia.

I have rubber door stops on both my currently running bikes, but as bump-stops for the mainstand.

That's not Bodgery, that's real, bona-fidi 'Creative Mechanics'.

Bodgery is when you spend more time, money and effort to NOT effect a form, fit & function 'repair' to original spec, or effective 'salvage' that returns full function and life to the artefact, if deviating from original form or fit.

One more thing, in the photos the amount of material I removed, by coincidence, is the same width as the chisel I used.
For those of you who have never used a lathe, you do not just jam the chisel up to the work piece. With a flat chisel, like the one I used, you will just be using the corner of the blade to make a cut whilst moving it over the length of the work piece.
The correct type of chisel to use would be a half round gouge, a "U" section chisel with the tip undercut and ground back between 45 and 60 degrees.

I'll settle for "Tight Wad" mechanics! Mr. Green

You'd think it'd be unpossible, but I did lose one from the GPZ500. It came off in the garage and I could find it. Not inside the plastics, not on the floor, not behind any of the piles of junk spares.

Electrical tape, round and round and round she goes.
