This year my budgets very tight so im planning on camping everyday, i should reach calais camp site the day i leave day 2 i hope to reach geneva and find a camp site, day 3 il begin the route des grande alps but part of me is saying i should just do the 1st part of the grande alps then head over to the stelvio and whatever passes i find inbetween. but anyway still dont know where to find the info i will need for camp sites?

The best guidebook for French campsites if the Michelin camping guide £10-£11 from most booksellers
The best site for GPS (camping) Points of Interest (POI's) is Archies campings https://www.archiescampings.eu/eng1/ you can download the whole of Europe or sections. Within each file is seperate files for each satnav OS plus POI's for google earth so you can check out the locations from home via your PC

As for stelvio ...... I should be there 14th/15th July
14th heading west > East across to Naunders, and then back up in the opposite direction the next day before heading along the Umbrail pass to Arosa

If your budget is tight, why not consider 'wild camping'; buy a good lot of food and fuel for the cost of a campsite.

Tbh it's more about personnel confidence in your ability. Though it would be better if you've done some wild camping "in country" with a buddy previously before doing it solo, but if your prepared to MTFU, wild camping "in country" is do-able.
Also how rough do you want to "rough it" and do it on the cheap?
As you've stated, your on a budget but do you really have to scrimp and save every penny, only for the trip to become an endurance test instead of a pleasurable holiday?

I suspect as with several other websites there is an element of sponsorship from the campsites themselves, which is why they can be so touchy.
Guide books such as Michelin guides, or Alan Rodgers are probably sponsored to some degree but are generally seen as more truthful

You should Google ACSI, they send you out a book full of sites all around Europe of which they approve and you get a membership card which entitles you to discounts. Also they have an app available which will tells you which campsite is closest to you etc.

Being alone is ideal for wild camping - lowest impact, so people are less likely to notice. Don't have others moaning about your spot. Stop when you want, go when you want.
Also like that you don't have to wander across a campsite for the toilet - just stand on the edge of your tent (mostly use proper toilets on the way for anything more.) No screaming kids waking you up in the morning, nor germans organising a 5 course breakfast.

Frankly, I'd probably pay to 'wild camp' over a campsite if I had to Smile.

And I've never really 'wild camped' when with anyone else, only myself and never had a problem.

The ACSI and "camping card" schemes campsites are listed in seperate POI files on the Archie's campings website. But They don't contain specific info on each site , but that can be obtained on the websites for those groups.
However my experience is that those types of campsites are used primarily by caravans etc but are ok for bike camping as they generally have excellent facilities such as showers, pool and restaurants onsite. If I use sites if that type I also make sure that I carry 6" nails or rock pegs for pegging out my tent as the camping pitches are normally rolled by a roller machine and are rock hard & normal tent pegs will bend when you try to hammer them in

As for the free ACSI app, i down loaded it to try it, but if he's using it in Europe on a smartphone won't he accrue data roaming charges if he uses it?
As he specifically stated that he's on a budget. At least with my suggestion of the gps POI's IF Lyam is using a satnav, at the end of the day if he hasnt got anything planned, he can at least navigate to a nearby suitable campsite

Me too and got woke about 3am by Deliverance types driving about with shotguns blasting from a pickup.
Didn't need to squeal like a pig for them though.
Mostly wild camping is safe enough for the odd night, but not knowing what's acceptable locally can be a concern in other countries.
You can often get a bike and small tent completely out of sight towards dusk and chances are no one will ever know you were there.

Unless going in peak season I wouldn't be worrying at all about picking a site in advance as almost every village has at least one campsite which will be able to fit a biker in.
If you had a caravan or campervan it would be different.
