Afternoon all.

Owing to my not having a clue about electrics, I am a bit stumped by the following issue, and I'd appreciate any advice.

My front left indicator has stopped working completely, the left indicator idiot light on the dashboard comes on but does not flash and the rear left indicator itself will come on but again it stays on solidly and does not flash. All other electrics, including the r/h indicators and all the idiot lights work absolutely fine.

I just wanted to ask for some advice before I start trying to problem solve. Is it just a blown bulb that has buggered the circuit? Do feel free to laugh at my stone age knowledge of electrics.

Cheers. Thumbs Up

Most likely just a blown bulb. Having a bulb out can result in it either running fast, or just putting the other bulb on constantly.

Checking / changing the bulb is the easiest thing to do, before you get concerned.

Ok, I have replaced the bulb but it doesn't seem to have done anything. Looking inside the indicator unit, especially where the bulb actually slots in, everything looks clean and in good order.

What is the next thing I need to do? I'm presuming I need to check wiring for any corrosion/dodgy connections?

Cheers.

Swap the bulbs over for one of the other ones to rule out bulbs completely

I replaced the rear bulb with a fresh one as well, nothing.

I have also now made the problem worse- I took off the indicator relay, wasted it in gt85, wiped the crud off and reconnected it. Now the indicators won't work at all :/

I went into the fuse box above the battery and put the spare 10amp fuse into the indicator section just to make sure it wasn't the fuse, this was after the indicator relay debacle though.

I now have no idea what to do.

This is why I should never be trusted with electrics. I'm now going to go and have a cup of tea and think on my stupidity.

Cheers.

Fresh bulbs aren't 100%. Thats why I said to switch it to one that you KNOW works.

However it sounds like you have another issue, If ALL indicators have stopped working double check the fuse, (again with one you know works)

Does your bike have an alarm that blips the indis or a hazard light switch? If so try using the indicators that way to rule out the switch. The next thing you wanna do is check all the connections you can.

Thanks for the reply.

The bike has no alarm or hazard lights.

I don't think the fuse is the problem because the indicators stopped working entirely before that. Although I have double checked it with a spare.

I think I'll start having to check connections then. Presumably it's just a case of following the wiring through the bike and checking all connecting clip things (yes I really have no idea what I am talking about) for any signs of crap/corrosion/loose connection?
