 |
|
So I have a RS125, PHBH28BD with 128 main,62 idle, 70 choke and 50 slide, with needle at lowest position(4th). This is how I bought the bike. But it was already at a shoddy condition as the piston was done. It did idle though.
I can't get it to idle now after new top end, even when the idle screw is fully in. This makes me choose to buy the following:
So I'm ordering a new 50 SLIDE(Idle screw doesnt do a lot) + 122 main(6mm?) and a gasket kit.
Fully screwing in the fuel screw en thus leaning the mixture doesn't increase RPM, so I tried to remove some play in the cable.
Cold + choke it will idle around 1500rpm. After the motor is warm, no choke it will idle at around 1100-1250 rpm. But I need to pull up the cable a bit more before it idles.
I have no idea what it is so i'm pretty much overhauling the whole carb. Because the mixture screw isn't doing a lot, i'm thinking of to buy a new idle jet (5mm?) too.
Anyone has a suggestion about this? Should i reorder the current 62? or go down or go up? Down leaning it? Up richening it?
It's not sucking air from anywhere, sprayed brake cleaner and rpm didnt go up. Should I also buy another mixer tube?
Would be cool if anyone could help with this. I know everyone hates jetting threads, and I read my fair amount of them before asking you guys. But I'm clueless and overhauling seems the best solution.
Anything I could try when my order is sent? Would changing clip position do anything with idle? Using the jetting chart the needle clip wouldn't affect idle |

First of all, I would strip and clean the carburettor thoroughly and restore the jets to the original factory spec, not forgetting to replace the needle valve and check the float height.
You can't always rely on jet numbering, because the previous owner might have enlarged them by cleaning, poking, filing, etc.
Once re-built and re-fitted, as long as the rest of the engine is OK (compression, timing, etc.) you should be able to adjust the throttle stop and idle air valve to get it idling properly - at which point, you will have a sound base to make alterations to the jetting if needed.
If the carb is setup as it should be and it still won't idle - it must be something else.
If the carb is setup with random jets and unknown internal condition - it could be anything. ____________________ Honda Varadero XL125(V8)

jetting sounds about right for a full power (de-restricted) rs, however clip shouldnt be on that notch.
likely done as some sort of bodge.
check the choke mechanism.
the wee brass choke piston can get sticky & if theres ant dirt in there, it will play havoc with running.same if its not sealing.
strip the carb down.
clean the choke piston & the wee spring.
clean out the rest of the carb, reset air screw to 2 & 1/2 turns out, clip on 2nd notch & start from there.
cheers,

Manual said 3rd notch is standard, not really sure about this anymore. Read it agesa ago.
Also carb was cleaned, choke sticks but it pulls up fine.
Seems my slide had a 40 slide, while normally it has a 50 slide.
I think this is why it won't idle? When I bought the bike it was idling, so this is quite strange.
I shall order a 50 slide to see if that helps. Also shall buy a service kit. |
