I need to get some new handlebars for my CBF600 (2008), the current ones being slightly misaligned after toughing it out with the tarmac. Two questions:

1 - is it as simple as unbolt all the bits hanging of the current bars, swap bars and rebolt the bits?

2 - I read somewhere that Hondas have a guide hole drilled in the underside of the bars so not just any old bars can be used. Is this right and I have to get Honda-official bars, or not?

Grateful for any help and guidance out there.

How bent are they? Loads of people change bent bars when all that's needed is to bend them straight. 'Slightly misaligned' would seem to suggest that's all that's needed.

I've changed lots of bars on lots of Hondas, usually with Renthal bars. The holes you mention are for plastic lugs on the switch halves to lock into. I usually just file or snip them off.

Yes, it's just a metal tube.

Drill equivalent. It's not a special Honda hole. Wink

Thanks for the feedback, changing them sounds within my comfort zone and probably less bother than trying to bend them back. Cheers all!

Why not try bending them first, before you buy new? I've been known to bend them in situ, just get a chum to hold the bike while you swing on them.

If you can't shift them, get more leverage with a bit of scaffold pole or similar, removing grips as necessary.

Or I've done custom bars by clamping just one end into the clamps on the yoke to give more to swing on.

Isn't the hole to stop the controls from turning when you turn the throttle?

Can't say I've ever had a problem with that. In addition I like to have my controls/levers and switches where I want them, the pegs make this hard to achieve as you can't swivel the switches around before tightening the screws.

That's what I thought!

It's easy enough to mark the position and drill a hole!

Also - some Honda's have non-standard bar-end weights which won't fit after-market bars, so you will probably need a new pair.

I don't have any bar end weights on my ZED. Never had a problem.

When I fitted Renthals to my Africa Twins I found that the extra alloy wall thickness meant I didn't need the bar end weights any more as the vibes were damped by the bars alone.
