Hi, I have had a slow puncture on back tyre for nearly 12 months. Haven't been able to get to anywhere to see about a repair. I cannot see anything obvious and the tyre still has some life in it (was new 2 yrs ago from a nail going through a previous one. Can I use tyre sealant in it to stop it from going down every few days and will this ruin the wheel and stop a future replacement tyre?

I have slime in my rear tyre , works fine for me.
Though it was only a bit of glass that punctured it in the middle.

Make sure you use the proper stuff and not the push bike stuff which has smaller bits in it

Are you sure its leaking from the side wall? Could also be the valve.

I don't know where it is leaking from. I cant see any obvious damage. Could be the valve I suppose. Can I take it out and check it myself?

Mix some washing up liquid and water together and squirt it all over the tyre and look for bubbles emerging. Plenty around the valve.

Much better than slime/tyreweld IMO.

If you find it's coming from INSIDE the valve, try a new core before a new stem (you can probably get one free from a tyre shop or at least a few pennies). If that doesn't sort it, it's time for a new stem which isn't too hard to do yourself but can be time consuming and you'll probably need tyre levers and protectors.

If its in the sidewall, I'd give slime/tyreweld a go.

That's all if you can find the puncture. If you can't then slime/tyreweld's got to be worth a go.
