The zip on my RST leather jacket has separated at the bottom. I know the zip is not fixable so it will need a new zip putting in. I don't want to just get rid of it as I've had the jacket for about 5 years and it's worn in well. Can anyone recommend a leather repair shop that won't cost the earth to take the old zip out and put a new one in? I'm based in Manchester so around this area would be good as I'm sure posting a leather jacket will cost loads.

Could you not just go to any old tailor?

I suppose I could but I'd rather go somewhere that's used to working with leather or bike gear as the jacket is all triple stitched and all that stuff.

Leather is composed of very tough densely packed fibres.
To put a hole in it for sewing needs many times more effort than stitching cloth.

Most tailors I have asked to fix leather tell me no.
They break normal needles trying and most will not keep the heavy duty needles required for leather work.

But if you ask a tailor he/she would probably know of someone who can do leather work.

The last post was made 11 years, 200 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
