Hi,

I want to do some Tim Tailor work and build a charger cable to charge my various devices on the road while touring.

I am no Al Borland. I'm good at DIY but I don't have much electrical /background knowledge. So I can do it practically but I need a little help with the theory.

This is the plan:

What do I need to worry about?

- I get 12V from the socket on my BMW F650GS.
- From there I want to go with a DIN Power Plug with two cables.
- One going to an ordinary female USB (for my phone/GPS on the handlebar) and one goes into my tank bag.
- The one that goes to the tank bag separates in the Tank bag into two ordinary cigarette lighter sockets
- One will get a tripple USB adapter plugged in and the other one will remain free for possible other devices

I know I will have to worry about the Voltage since I am getting 12V from the bike but USB needs 5 so I'll have to reduce the voltage before the female single USB. (Which element do I need for that?) The other three USBs should be fine since it's a dedicated adapter.

What you guys think?
Good idea? Go back to the drawing board? Gtfo? You stupid wanka?

I'm happy about any suggestions. Smile

You will need one £5 4 USB Car Charger Power Supply DC 12V to 5V 5A Step-down Power Module For MP3 Phone GPS:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Charger-Power-Supply-Step-down-Module/dp/B00L2A1W6S

Read your manual, but I think your BMW power socket is max 5A that means do not be too ambitous with the number of the devices you plug there the max power is 5A X 12V = 60W.

Means forget about these cigarette lighter adapters if you plan to plug some heated clothing there Very Happy

You can get them from Poundworld too, but you'll need to weatherproof them.
