hi,
im needing to stock up on a couple of things for the garage, including grease.
i have a big tub of "normal"grease, just your run of the mill grease.

but i need to replenish the other types of grease, that i only use a little at a time, including red rubber grease for brake seals & copper grease for back of brake pads etc.

just had a quick look on ebay & seen tiny wee tubs of red rubber grease for a couple of quid, ideal...however i've seen other places sell the same stuff along with "aluminium graphite anti-seize assembly compound" or "copper graphite grease" for not much more.(price wise)
what would be the uses for such stuff? or are they just alternatives to coppaslip?
would i be better sticking to what i normally use ? : bog standard or LM grease, copper grease, red rubber grease & some white stuff that comes in a can thats for bearings & other stuff.

TL/DR? how many different types of grease do i need?

cheers,
GAZ

I'm really not an experienced mechanic but all I usually use is the normal grease you mentioned and copper slip. Normal grease for parts that don't get hot and copper slip for anything that does (brakes and exhaust mainly).

Also if you're not after a lot of copper slip, Euro Car Parts sells a 100g bottle for a bit less than eBay's 70g plus there's no delivery wait if you live near one of their depos.

I have LM, moly, red rubber, white ptfe and waterproof grease. I find the waterproof grease to be handy for stands and brake pedal pivots.

I always keep a tub of lithium grease and use nickel/graphite instead of copper grease

As a minimal set, Lithium grease (LM etc etc), copper grease and molybdenum paste will cover pretty much every eventuality.

Cans of spray grease are handy for control cables.

Really heavy nlgi 3 grease is good for things like gear shift linkages.

Pfpe/ptfe greases, whilst expensive are really good for areas exposed to a lot of fuel vapour.

hi,
thanks for the replies.
sounds like i will have most of what i need. as i already have a big tub of lithium based grease for general use & i have ordered copper grease & red rubber grease, which usually lasts for years.
apart from waterproof heavy duty sticky stuff like i had in an aerosol. i had the same can for years. it came out white & thick. cant remember the name of it though Brick Wall
the blurb on the can said it was heavy duty, waterproof & ideal for exposed moving parts & bearings or something along those lines..
was great for brake lever pivots, stands etc & you knew when it was time to re-do, because it was white & took ages to wash off, a quick glance was all that was needed.

for cable inners etc i use 3-in-1 oil & still use the old fashioned plastic bag method for stiff cables.

i'll try & hunt the canned stuff down... i think it was made by comma..... Thinking

cheers,
GAZ
EDIT : a quick google throws up this stuff https://www.commaoil.com/passenger-vehicles/products/view/216

i hope its as good as the stuff i had previously. colour of can/label is different (which i would expect, seeing as last time i bought it, was over 5yrs ago Very Happy ) but the description sounds promising.

actually halfrauds sells this stuff https://www.halfords.com/motoring-travel/engine-oils-fluids/grease/3-in-one-professional-white-lithium-grease-400ml which would easier to get (as local store is....wel... local) & its a brand i trust & sounds more heavy duty.
unless someone knows better?
