 |
|
For those that may remember, this happened to me nearly 3 years ago
(contains image of my wound, so a bit of gore, possibly not work safe )
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=253168&start=0
And today i finally got back on it, it's taken so long because for the first year and a bit i was too busy getting myself fit again, had to find another job ( was made redundant while i was signed off work recovering from the injuries )
After that was dealt with and i was more or less fully functioning, i sorted another job so me and the gf decided it was time to move out from my parents, so we got a mortgage sorted, so "house stuff" took priority over getting the bike sorted.
Once we had settled in i bought a shed, got the bike to it's new home and then started adding up how much money repairing the bike was going to cost.
Unfortunately i wasn't insured fully comp at the time of the accident, but it wasn't the cheapest thing to insure at my age so, yeah, shit happens. Also, thanks to a member on here who contacted/advised me i did look into possibly making a claim regarding the road surface condition where i had my accident, i know something was there but couldn't prove it, and as some of you may remember, the police officer who took pictures at the scene lost them all when the phone he used went in to be repaired so they were 'deleted' Anyway, long story short, it never came to anything due to "lack of evidence" which is fair enough, it was basically my word against the police officers and eye witnesses so i never got my hopes up.
Now that the 'claim process' was over this meant i could start repairing the bike, i was advised during the start of the claim process to not touch the bike as someone may have to come and take photo's of the damage etc.
It's been a long process, all in all it's cost around £2500 to get it back on the road, i don't think i could have done it much cheaper, i got lucky on a few bits on ebay that went cheap, things such as the clutch cover, footpegs, levers etc
I did get a quote to replace the fairings with an OEM set, which added up to around 4k and i was told i would still have to swap over bits from my damaged fairings like the clips, padding etc as it wasn't included so i went turned to china, paid £500 for a full set and it's a pretty good match in my opinion.
( just realised i didn't reduce the image file sizes, sorry )

It was also a chance to try out the gopro4 + chest mount for the first time

Thanks for all the messages + support ( from the other thread ), I have found myself once or twice re-reading them during the recovery and it all helped.
Felt great to be back on it, i rode like a pussy though and found myself scanning the road surface more than i ever have, but it's just a confidence thing, at least if it happens again chances are i'll have it on camera ____________________ 2010 Ducati 848 Dark

So this is how it now looks
https://www.imageupload.co.uk/images/2015/04/03/unnamed.jpg
Still have little/no feeling which is fine.
I've been doing fitness training for about a year now as i was full mr.skeleton mode and i'm still really struggling to get my ab muscles to start appearing / growing on my right side it's one thing i forgot to ask the doctors/surgeon if they'll ever come back or are they too damaged after being cut open?
It never put me off getting back on the bike, we all know what can happen so i'd be a hypocrite if i was shocked about what happened and vowed never to ride again.
I had to get back on it for my own peace of mind, how i crashed is still a mystery although of the way it happened and looking at the evidence i'm quite confident it was a spillage of some sort ____________________ 2010 Ducati 848 Dark

You DO know pubes are Considered infra dig these days?
Your accident thread predates me joining BCF, so I had not seen it before. I wish I hadn't seen it now.

I had to google " infra dig "
I used to have a neat happy trail, until they shaved me, now it's gone mad. ____________________ 2010 Ducati 848 Dark

The bike looks fantastic, you did a great job with it. Good to see you're riding and didn't get put off it. I can only imagine all the "you're not really getting back on that thing are you?" comments from family/friends.
I remember the original thread when you posted it. I was shocked at the amount of internal damage from such a small spill but it's nice to know that the professionals can just cut you open, fix you up and stitch you back together again.
Well done and good luck |

Thanks
Yep i've definitely had the "please don't go back out on it" line from family and some friends, the gf understands what it means to get back out there just from my own psychological perspective.
The thing is, they sort of have a point, it wouldn't be fair to put people through that again, waiting to see if i was going to survive or not and then waiting over a week for me to wake up. And as they've said i obviously wasn't there to see what the family went through during this time, so in a way isn't it selfish for me to go back out there?
And there's also my own opinion that i need to do it for my own confidence, and the cliché "it's my life" point.
It's kind of stopped me discussing to some people how progress of repairing the bike was going because i knew as soon as i mentioned it, they would also give me the guilt trip or heavily imply i shouldn't get back on it. ____________________ 2010 Ducati 848 Dark

Wow I remember reading that, enough to put off unsure bikers. In all seriousness congrats to you. Without a bit of ego posturing or extreme stupidity it takes guts and good motivation to fix it up and get back out there which you have done so bloody props
As to your pubes..... sort it out, if only for yourself, imagine getting backwashed from that muff from your lady ____________________ Honda Varadero >> Triumph Speed Four >> Honda CBR1100xx |

Thanks for the support
So, as for the pubes, they cover the bottom line of the scar, that goes around my belly button, ( they are brown, although look gingerish in the pic ) what would the BCF pube crew recommend i do?
a neat tidy, well groomed line, or remove the lot? ____________________ 2010 Ducati 848 Dark
