Has anyone had issues with rust in the last few weeks? I am hoping that the rain has washed it all away and it is safe to bring my bike out of storage. The salt is a pain in the arse, on my commuter I have had a lot corrosion on my aluminium rims and they are probably past recovering by myself, not worth paying to have them cleaned up to go through it again next winter.

I cant really tell that much but my commuter has not really got any worse lately so I am guessing they have stopped salting. I know that about a month ago they were still putting it down late at night.

I see more bikes on my commute now than I did throughout the whole of winter.. a sure sign that the weathers improved (I do all year round so makes no difference to me).

If you're really worried just scrub the exposed parts down with some water before you put it away, alternatively just ACF-50 it before taking it out.

About a month ago was the last time I saw it on the roads, the salt this year seemed worse than last year. Even acf50 won't keep the worst of it at bay.

My commuter is naked and even using acf50 all winter it still badly corroded wiring and destroyed my wheels. My other bile is faired and I haven't got the time to take the fairings off and spray acf50 everywhere. I think I will hold off another month maybe.

I am not sure how long I takes until all the salt has completely gone, it must take several months considering the amount they put down over the winter. The only thing that surprised me this winter passed was that I never needed to put my thermal lining in the jacket and trousers.

this stuff is great at protecting bits and bobs on bikes,
I know it is sold for alloy wheels but if it can protect those it has to have some working uses on a bike.

My bike hasn't seen much corrosion to be honest but i didn't use it all that much in the shitty weather days, i will need to service the brakes soon though as the front one is mildly rubbing, probably to do with the salt.

I was just talking about this with another all-year rider up here. Our working theory is that because it was a relatively mild winter, they actually dumped loads more salt on the roads because they weren't hoarding it in case it turned cold. Now that's ironic, Alanis.

I reckon they were doing that down here as well. Went from home to Peterborough and back about 3 weeks ago -120 miles. By the time I got back the front of the Pan had turned white. Every time I overtook anything the bike was kicking up grit left in the centre of the road. We had gritters out in the evenings when there seemed to be no danger of ice.

All seems to be gone now though, washed away by the rain but still a lot of grit laying down the centre on the main roads.
