External hard drive wont let me do anything with it.

I've been using the same external harddrive for years but the other day I went to do some work on it and it wont let me do anything.

I only want to rename a file, delete a file and move some files into specifc folder to keep everything neat and tidy, but for some reason it wont allow me to do this.

It keeps saying: "you need administrator permission to delete this folder". So I click on 'continue'. The button has a little shield on it. Then it says that I need permission from Everyone to make changes to this folder!!!

It is only me who uses the harddrive. Dont know what I have done to block myself from making changes.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers for the link, but I am absolutely useless with computers and cannot seem to follow simple instructions either and I still cannot get it to work.

How are you connecting to it?

Windows? Which one?

When I click on properties, there is no tab for 'security'.

What account are you logged onto the pc with?

If you don't have a local admin rights then you wont be able to take ownership of the drive.

Scan in your receipt from when you bought the drive, along with photo ID.
