What isn't though, and why would you pay if not to win?

No pay to win so far. You can pay for loot drops, but they don't guarantee to drop the loot near you, and the drop is accessible by all players on the server.

It also shows players where it's dropping. Pay for instant carnage, but not to win. PvE servers are also not pay to win.

Anyway. I'm playing on the Last Living PvE server, got a base near Cranberry

H1Z1 is everything that DayZ should be so far to be honest.

Looks better, runs better, far less bugs, crafting too, zombies can be a real danger.

Got excited about it for it's release - got it that day - played a bit, got bored. Not touched it since.

Guess I should give it another go, there's been a ton of updates since release. I'm more of a Day Z fan, but even that is waning. Last time I played I shot point blank range at two guys stood in my doorway (Trying to kill me) and didn't hit one of them, getting fed up with that crap.

It's just another zombie survival early access game. Their even charging you to test their game for them before they release it to the public for free Laughing Plus it's made by SOE.

I hate that.

Playing State of Decay last night (highly recommend it if you like zombie games, by the way - hold on until the 28th for the new upgraded version!) and I realized I was getting close to the end, and also that I wanted something with more detail to the day to day survival.

It was then I remembered Project Zomboid, and reading on the wiki about how to last indefinitely on the farm.

Went to their site and saw the game is still stupid expensive, and a Dev blog post saying LOOK! Here are our mock ups of the forthcoming vehicles! Here are our mock ups for the forthcoming NPCs!

That was June last year, neither of those things are in the game yet! What the hell are they doing? In that time, State of Decay has been made, had two DLC packs and is now about to get a GOTY edition. Project Zomboid's guys seem content to finish it in Valve time, in between infamous getting robbed and cussing out their customer base, of course.

Where was I? Oh yeah, H1Z1. I'd stay away from it. And Rust. And all those other unfinished grieftastic games.

PZ is actually OK, but their progress is terrible. their also supected of lying about being broken into and having their laptops with their builds on stolen so that they could cover up not working for 6 months when the game got popular. Their devs with no experience who got lucky with an idea and then realised they dont have the skills. For example look at when they added NPC's only to remove them because they where far too buggy. I dont think their in the game even now.
It's one of those games you should check out when it's done in 3 years time.

This guy is cluesless zombie spawn rate just got nurfed to the ground, more chance running to the edge of the map, before seeing a zombie. The game has become a PVP minus the zombies, zombie Apocalypse game.. This and every second person you see is a hacker!

Zombies have been nerfed in the recent update, but I'm assuming you didn't play it on the previous update?

Zombie density is now related to player density, so in more populated areas there are more zombies, etc.

It does need another tweak to increase the number of zombies in town. But even with these few numbers of zombies, we did have a herd of 10+ after us (2 players) last night.

This game, despite only being in public alpha for a couple of months, is far better developed with less bugs than DayZ that has been out for quite a long time now. But, instead of fixing bugs, they decide it's more beneficial just to add a new couple of hats.

No zombies you say?

Stuff H1Z1 & DayZ! Play ARMA 3 Breaking Point. Breaking Point is the mod, like you had a mod for DayZ in Arma 2. This is why it's better than DayZ Standalone and H1Z1, in no particular order;

It's far more polished (less bugs/glitches).

It uses a far more up-to-date game engine and has MUCH better ballistics physics.

It has better graphics.

It has far more weapons to choose from.

The looting system is far better.

Zombie AI is getting increasingly better.

The devs actually produce results weekly and are constantly communicating with the players via the forum and delivering upon popular demand.

There's no pay to win bollocks either.

It has a permanent grouping system where you can create "legions" as they're called.

It has more vehicles (different heli's, speed boats, cars, trucks, armoured vehicles, etc)

It's also got a faction system which makes it immediately better than any other competitors in this game genre.

I really can keep going.. but you should just give it a try instead and inevitably agree with me. Laughing

Also these are some screenshots - Click here

I have been thinking about getting Arma 3 just because of how good the graphics look. There just are not many games right now that even try to make an effort with graphics. How well does the game run though? I played it back in alpha and it was running poorly and i hear there are still a lot of issues.

Arma 3 itself I haven't played much of, but what I did play seemed pretty polished and bug-free.

The breaking point mod has some minor bugs with zombeis but nowhere near as many as DayZ and overall the bugs that are there really aren't noticeable. The only annoying bug I think is where zombies auto hit you if you get too close to them but if you're at all competent with melee you can avoid it very easy by just walking away slowly and hitting them. I don't really even notice any bugs in the game anymore that warrant me getting at all frustrated.

They have a dedicated bug-fixing team anyway and fix bugs quickly so any time something major happens in the case of an update it's quickly prioritized and cleaned up.

Get it man trust me you'll lose yourself in that game for hours lol.

Thanks, i think i'l try it once my exams are over then.
I have been playing 7 days to die lately, but it's really lacking. The updates take forever to come out and when they do theres hardly anything new in them.

Yea, it's incredible how long these indie devs take to finish a game. I remember playing one of the first releases and thinking 'maybe in a year itl be great' Laughing I do think though that once it's done it will be the best zombie game.

That reminds me: Xenonauts.

I'd like to a survival game in an open world without using zombies as its excuse. Why not just a post-WW3 survival thing about gathering materials? Part of the reason I like WURM is the world itself is hard enough to survive in without needing zombies. (though the mystical wildlife in WURM is pretty hardcore too)

The Long Dark probably does the survival without zombies the best. It's another early access game, but at least they seem to release updates regularly.

How about Fallout 3. Not really a survival game as such though.

Is H1Z1 better optimized than DayZ? I bought DayZ and could barely play it on my gaming pc, yet I run everything else on max/ultra settings. I know it’s more CPU intensive than GPU but didn’t think it would run that bad. Specs below...

i7-870 CPU
8GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB

Day Z is really badly optimised, I don't think H1Z1 could be any worse if it tried. You'll definitely get a better experience on H1Z1.

Played to death.

I suppose they need some kind of external influence in scenarios like this to explain why it wasn't just a case of (as seen in the War of the Worlds remake) changing a few car parts and getting civilization going again.
