Got tax refund automatically

sold bike recently. Was thinking about applying for road tax refund but then couldn't be bothered as it was only a fiver or so that was owed.

Turns out DVLA refund the tax automatically when the registration is transferred to new owner. Got a cheque for £6.33 through with slip confirming transfer to new owner is done.

I got the same when I sold my car in Feb, had a nice sized cheque for pretty much 10 months tax.

Yes, it's all done automatically now, tax is no longer transferable and the new owner will need to re-tax as soon as they buy it. The old keeper gets an automatic cheque through.

This is a big win for the DVLA, they no longer have to send out tax discs, so they save mega bucks on that. Plus, on a vehicle that changes keeper in the middle of the month, the new keeper has to tax from the 1st of the month, but the old keeper only gets a cheque covering full unused months. So the DVLA wins a month extra tax.

I taxed my old bike for the year then sold it before it came into affect.

Only sold three weeks ago, got my notice of owner change but no cheque yet.

Did it take long?

I paid them online for my tax from my bank account. Sold the CG then got a cheque back, can they not just refund it to my bank? In the 2015, who the hell uses cheques apart from 84 year olds?!

I recently got a cheque for the CG for £1.25.
I chuckled then debated framing it for posterity, but I will likely just bin it, it's not worth the trip to the bank.
