Hey I'm new here, so I thought I could just introduce myself here, aswell as ask some questions Smile
I'm a fairly new rider, 2 years in now on and off.

And now I just got a NSR 125 for free as my daily commute, and it runs great.
It revs great past the 7000 mark, which I´ve been reading some people have had problems with, so thats great!

Now I got a couple of questions.
I read that you can derestrict the bike. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't this just shorten the life of the engine?
I got a problem with the headlight, when it's on "low beam" the high beam is on and vice versa, maybe anyone have had this problem or I'll have to find the gremlin myself
There are some front air intakes, do anybody know if they actually do anything? To me it looks like the don't do anything, but I could be wrong
The gear shifter, is acting up sometimes, where it like that "doesn't catch" the gear, and it can be hard to get into neutral when the engine have been running.
I'm not sure which model I got, the bike is first registered in 98 but from what I can gather it's from around 89-92, I'm hoping someone can clear that up from the images. The registration papers says it's a JC20 tho.

Anyways here are some photos of the bike.

1-The bike can be de-restricted and should not adversely affect engine life so long as it's properly maintained.

2-Try swapping over the connections in the switch

3-They are there to make it look cool

4-Try some fresh oil

5-Chances are it's an import

1 - Okay great.
2 - I will do that.
3 - So I can remove them, and patch the holes, it wouldn't make a difference in the performance ? Because I hate the look of the pipes.
4 - Do the gearbox and the engine share the same oil ? I got some fresh 2 stroke quality oil laying around.
5 - Yeah I thought so.

I've never actually seen the air intake system on an NSR, but I wouldn't recommend covering the holes or the engine won't be able to get any air and therefore not be able to combust.

I always thought that front mounted air intakes were better, the faster you go, the faster the air is forced into the engine and the more power it produces.

I'd be more inclined to get rid of the crappy bikini fairing and keep the intakes.

Its a very clean, original bike, its quite rare in that condition, certainly in the UK ...

I think you could get 25bhp easily with a slight tune, to be honest...

The airbox is under the tank so it'll get air from the pipes but it's no ram air system.

DO NOT put two stroke oil in the gearbox. Some fresh gearbox oil will be appropriate. 10W40 or similar. 2 stroke engines use seperate oils for the top and bottom parts of the engine.

Thanks for the replies guys.
So don't cover the air intakes, and change the oil in the gearbox with gearbox oil (I know it was a stupid question).

Yeah it's on EU plates, it's from Denmark. And thanks for the manual, I'll have a look.

I wasn't sure if it was a UK bike. These were restricted to about 12 bhp in line with learner laws.

I vaguely remember there being a couple of physical restricters:

Exhaust
Air intake

However, I guess yours is already de-restricted if its on a non UK plate.

I think you can buy a bigger bore conversion and also the obligatory aftermarket end can if you wanted a bit more power too .....

The carbs probably already a decent enough size, 28 mm I would have thought.....

A good service will go a long way, particularly with a bike of that age.
