So I just passed my car practical (purely for work) and handed over my provisional card and counterpart. Because of my elation it didn't even cross my mind at the time that I would need it for my Mod 1 and 2 on Tuesday/Wednesday.

I'm now in a right ol' pickle as I can't even cancel and refund as its not within 3 working days. Mad

Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any suggestions as to what I can do? I'll call the DSA on Monday but from my previous encounters with them I'm not too hopeful of a solution.

You wont get the licence back on time and you will have to rebook and lose the test fee's. It's an expensive lesson.

If you can get through to the test centre first thing on Monday morning you might be able to stop them shredding the license... although they have probably done it already.

I actually drove back to the test centre as soon as I realised but it was too late Sad Thanks anyway.

Thing is, they only need to see it before the test starts.

They've seen it before the test starts.

Did you try a "go on, go on, go on, ah, ye will so" stratagem?

You have the Car-Test Pass Cert... Read it all carefully, I'm sure that some-where on it, it says something like "This certificate should be retained until you receive your new licence and may be presented in its place should proof of entitlement be required" (Though I haven't looked at one for a while, so not too certain of exact wording) They DO need to check your identity, though... and photo-card would double up for both checks.

Personally, I'd turn up to test with car pass cert and my pass-port, and try and blagg it.. you got two chances; don't turn up you got none!

As Roger says they only have to be able tick box to say they've 'seen' it; I seem to recall Snowie managed to mis-place her mod-1 cert when she turned up for one of her Mod 2's... and after much hunting; examiner said "Forget it... I HAVE seen it.. just not today... I signed it!"

Thanks Tef, I think that is my best bet. I'll definitely give it a go anyway.

I dug out my Mod 2 pass certificate, you can use it to show you have a valid driving licence.

Seeing as you have already paid for the tests and can't cancel them you have nothing to lose by turning up with your driving test certificate and another form of photo ID like Tef said. Don't ask, don't get and all that. Fingers crossed!

The certificate you all talking about, won't should his provisional entitlement . However DVLA do have a service up and running that you can check your liecene online, ready for this counterpart binage thing happening in a few months.

Maybe the tester, might just use this option if he has a brain cell?

They charge an arm and a leg for it though - I've done track days and they said if you don't have a counterpart they charge £25 for the licence check service (I know they'll stick a huge mark up on it though, but still, for a tiny bit of info, it's expensive).

FYI I just checked my license details online, on the dvla website, and the only you need is:

-Driving license no.
-National Insurance no.
-Postcode.

Completely free, and took about 30 seconds. Shows all your license info; licenses held, dates obtained etc.

The bonanza ends on 8 June 2015.

You should destroy your paper counterpart after this date

After 8 June 2015 if you are hiring a vehicle or you drive for a living and you are asked to provide evidence of your driving record (entitlements and/or penalty points), you will be able to do this online for free by accessing our Share Driving Licence service. This service is currently in development but will be available before the counterpart is abolished.

Currently in "private beta", whatever they think that means.

Well it was a lesson learnt, but not expensive in the slightest. I think some of you underestimated my wit and charm as I managed to coerce the lovely Jackie on team 4 to move my tests with no extra charge.

Huzzah!!! Laughing
