My office will be relocating to Farringdon at the end of the year.

Where I work now (Tower Hill) I'm fortunate enough to have a secured car park that's free for bikes. Can't find anything similar around Farringdon. Does anyone know of any?

FYI - NCP nearby charge £6 per day or £1,400 annually.

No idea I'm afraid. I wouldn't entertain the idea of parking your bike outside though, no matter how big the chain. A bike that 'new' is asking to get nicked in London. Tis why I'd only consider that with a ratty old CB500.

I fear as much. Also don't fancy leaving my bike out in all weathers without a cover either.

I've parked up in Farringdon / Clerkenwell for the past two years without any issue, with 16mm almax (all the bike bays have anchors) with my 2012 SH300. My boss hasn't had any issues with his 2013 F800GS either (he keeps a cover on his, but no chain, just a disc lock).

Check to make sure you can't park on the pavement very close by your work. Outside the office my company had in 2013, I was able to park on pavement glass blocks - the parking wardens don't ticket bikes on them, and there were anchors bolted to the walls that could fit the almax too.

There's a Corporation of London underground car park on London Wall (at the London Museum end) which is free for bikes - 12 minutes walk from Farringdon station.

https://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/services/transport-and-streets/parking/where-to-park/car-parks/Pages/London-Wall-car-park.aspx

Edit: just noticed the Smithfield one is even closer to Farringdon.

I use that one, limitless bike parking, patrolled 24/7. Not only underground but completely hidden from view.

Cheers guys very helpful advice. I'm not familiar with the area so slightly apprehensive about security. Will look into the london wall and smithfields locations.

Thumbs Up

I used to live on portpool lane. It looks like a bit of a dump, but my bikes never had any problems there. It's also right next to a busy market that's open 5 days a week (and a really great place to get lunch) , so plenty of traders and quite a high police presence to watch out for it.

This is Leather Lane, and is where I get lunch 3 times a week. Agree Thumbs Up

Guys,

Just because your bike hasn't been stolen doesn't mean it won't. My bike was continuously scoped by kids on bicycles when I worked just off Caledonian Road. It was only because our receptionist would make herself known over the loudspeaker that my bike didn't get in their grubby mittens. All they need is the opportunity.

I'm all for biking in London, just not for parking nice, new bikes out on the street for everyone to see. Tis not worth it. Buy an old CB500 for that. You'll probably find you commute faster on it too. Wink

I park outside my office in Farringdon (on their property but next to the street). Not had any issues with security but I only have a CBF 125. Didn't know about the London Wall/Smithfields car parks, might give that a go to see what it's like.

Lucky git, that's a great part of London to work. Love it round there. I was on a course in Hatton Garden once and parked my bike on-street for a week. If you do have to park on-street, be early as they fill up quite quickly. Didn't know about the free underground car parks in Smithfield but would have definitely parked there if I had.

I'm still a bit undecided about the area and whether it's nice compared to where I'm working now!

There area good 10 or so bikers who commute year round in the office all of whom are thanking me for finding out about the free place at smithfields!

If only they knew about BCF!

takes less than 20 secs to pick your bike up place in a van, better to use the underground car parks as they at least have barriers for you to lock the bike to

I recommend the City of London car parks... Farringdon is on the border of Camden and The City.

Got a tenuous parking ticket from Camden Council. I'd rather give Hitler a blowie than have anything to do with them Nazi's!

Not sure where you work now but it's a great part of the city. Full of history, lots of places to eat at lunchtime (reasonably cheap too). Again, I'm not sure where you are travelling in from but the commute can be a bit trying (as it can in any part of the city) and you need to be aware of the layout of the roads as you get some right clowns in cars and on bicycles around that part of the city.

I'm not aware of any bike bays in Farringdon / Clerkenwell area that don't have ground anchors. Some even have two types, the ones that pull up on a handle, as well as hoops sunk into the concrete.

If I was within walking distance of London Wall, I'd probably park there too mind. But I'm not.

Can't help with parking advice - I always went by tube.
However you will be close to one of my favourite greasy spoons when your office relocates.
Andrews Café on Grays Inn Rd, well worth scheduling a breakfast meeting in. Nom, nom.

I work in Farringdon. There are a few crowded bike parking spaces, and you should expect your bike to get scuffed up if you use these.

There is a carpark towards the north end of Hatton Garden that's £4 a day and it's always staffed so more secure.

I'm in Hatton Garden, just the other side of Farringdon Road. There are 3 motorcycle bays in Kirby Street that hold about 50 bikes in all, 1 on Hatton Wall, 2 on St Cross Street plus the NCP on Hatton Wall (where you can park for free).

There are a few around Smithfield too.

The bays are mainly filled with scooters whose owners think it's OK to scratch and bash bikes parked next to them - so if yours is nice and shiny with no scratches be aware! Very Happy

The NCP is on Saffron Hill and it's not free.

Good thing about London Wall, apart from being free for bikes is that it never gets remotely close to capacity, I usually roll in at about 09:30 and there's loads of space down the far end.
