Did my wrist and thumb last week (thumb was open dislocation). Any idea how long till I can ride again? Obviously I'll ask the doc but just wondered if anyone had done similar.

Ouchies... Ordinarily you would be looking at 6-8 weeks healing time, but you might require some hand therapy/physio when your radius is fixed depending on how fubarred your thumb is. Have they given you an op ?

Thumb was ok considering, when they'd popped it back into place it looked (from the back) like nothing had happened. They thought about an op to clean it out but as it never touched tarmac (glove didn't tear) decided not worth it.

I suspect it will hurt once bandages have come off and I start moving it. Didn't get stitches so the split might take a while to close up properly.

Wrist is pretty 'good' break, not smashed or twisted or anything grim.

Walli, will be disappointed. I dare say he was assuming it was the other hand and he is already on his way over to assist.

Shame really, for a rough-around-the-edges looking guy, I found he had surprisingly soft hands.

I shattered my distal radius and it took two months for me to be able to ride again. It took a month before I went back to work, but I did break my foot and have a lot of other injuries too.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Agreed, six to eight weeks although as it's the clutch hand you will find it easier to get going as soon as the plastercast is removed. Throttle hand involves more movement which while actually serving as physiotherapy, can be hard work if you have to go straight back to all day riding. Rolling Eyes (Self employed courier)

Dislocated thumbs aren't usually a problem except for the fact that they will dislocate more frequently after a few offs. Mine struggle to push in a drawing pin these days without popping.

Bad luck in missing out on all the good biking weather but at least you still have use of your right hand as left hand butt wiping feels so awkward. Shocked Laughing Laughing

Clutch side is bad news, I struggled to get the strength back into mine to be able to operate a clutch on a lot of bikes.

No all day riding for me, I haven't even got my Mod 2 never mind a bike Embarassed . Bet the training school can't wait to see me again!

Not sure I fancy thumb popping out till the scar's well and truly healed, could do without it opening up again...

Mine took about three months to heal to bike-riding ability with 2 months of that in physio (distal radius fracture). Still not perfect, can't bend it as much as before but I have the strength to work the clutch and turn the bars just fine on my naked. Rode a sportsbike the other day and even with more weight over on my wrists it felt okay.

I skidded on ice and my "soft landing" in a grassy verge turned out to have a half-buried broken bottle which tore through my hand, destroying my carpal tunnel. I could only move two fingers but surgery and three months off had it all sorted. Doctor said pulling a clutch lever is excellent physiotherapy Shocked Shocked Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

As I crashed outside my delivery destination, I just took the parcel in but the receptionist had a hairy fit when I started dripping blood all over the floor.........I hadn't thought it was that bad. Shocked

Good point well made Wink

New cast put on today, should be having it off (yeah baby) in 5 weeks after which I'm good to go. Unless it hurt some more.

Oh, it will hurt, even after the cast is off. So, realistically, add 2 more weeks or maybe more. Thumbs Up
