I discovered it on a US Import FZ700 I went to look at ifrom an add in MCN abut twenty years ago.. lead to me buying the VF1000...
Adverts rarely had photo's back then, less colour ones... so I pottered sixty miles up the M6 to find a very dark and dingy warehouse in the potteries.
Chap that greeted me, lead me in to the gloom through a broken hatch door; apologising for the darkness, and fumbling for the light switch.. he needn't have bothered!
From somewhere in the middle of the mountain of motorcycles, there emitted a radio-active yellow glow! - THAT was the FZ700 in the advert that had taken me there!
As the chap started shifting bikes out of the way so could 'get a better look at it'.. so the ore I wished not to!
The radiative hum grew in intensity around the black speed-blocks, that looked like they had been cut from a black bin-bag and stuck on with wall-paper past!
And it was't just 'yellow'.. it had a phosphorescent green tinge to it!
It was less 'Kenny Roberts Tribute' as irradiated mouldy Banana!
Revealed in all its glory, I staggered back wards away fro the nuclear fall-out.. and was poked in the arm-pit by a twist grip..
I turned to look at what had attacked me.. it was a VF1000.... looked quite good at the time... mind you, after the Irradiated mouldy banana, that's not saying much!
Sorry I cant offer any pictures.. I did't have an X-Ray machine! So you'll have to use your imaginations!

I'm not really surprised.

It's not great. As paintjobs go it's a 'good' one in the sense that it has been executed well, it's just the design is awful. The 'speedblocks' look more like speedblobs to me, and it just looks a little bit too much like a caricature.

It should look like this:

If the speedblocks had sharp corners it'd be fine!

This is a pretty bad Kenny Roberts paint job.

I liked it, until I realised that the vertical-ish white lines are angled the wrong way.

Now that's all I can see.

Ignorance is bliss.

Modern sportbikes either have curves in all the wrong places (like the OP's R1) or have too many sharp edges and angles. Makes paintjobs from the past (where the fairings were all bulbous-like) harder to replicate/pay tribute to.
