As some people here may know I was supposed to be doing my CBT in a few days...

Queue knee pains and a visit to the doctors --> specialist and lots of fancy stuff, and I've been told I've probably ripped a tendon or ligament in my knee. (I can't remember which he said). He's not totally sure yet. I've now been forwarded to the leading knee specialist in central England (BUPA = good).

This means basically: I cant have my knee bent and try to lift/push with my foot/toes, and its painful to push down on my knee when its just slighly bent.

Unless I've misunderstood the workings of a bike, this means no gears right? And if I were to ever fall off and land on my right knee I would be in extruciating agony!

So, no bike, unitl I've had an operation, and then many months recovery time. Man this sucks! I was really looking forward to doing my CBT and riding a bike! Fuck. I'm feeling so dissapointed and depressed right now. (you know how it is, when you've been looking forward to something for over a year and a half, and then when you get to the point when you can finally do it, you find it wont happen for a quite a while, maybe never.) Sad

Oh well, I guess it does mean i can spend the money I saved for a bike on building a new computer... (as I will have a lot of time just sitting in my house if I have this operation, I might as well play games).

Crying or Very sad

Gears are left leg, you might get away with it if it's your right you've knackered.

Can only really tell by trying. Confused

Ouch, having had the lligaments in my legs stetched, torn and with quite a few dislocations of the knee, I know it bloody hurts. Sad Hope it goes well for you and it's sorted painlessly as possible and as quickly Thumbs Up .

As for the CBT, ask if you can use one of their mopeds, shoudn't cost much more and will mean you wont have to worry too much about your knee, that is if there's anyway you can still be allowed to do it.

Cheers, Jonathan

Tis my left knee...

I really don't want to do any more damage, or fall off onto it, and the only way I could get on a bike is to pay £100 for a CBT that I would likely have to drop out of due to too much pain in my knee...

Unless there's someone around Leamington Spa (near Warwick and Stratford (Shakespear place)) thats willing to let a stranger off of the internet have a go on thier bike? (I doubt it)

edit for badlydamaged: The only reason I didn't do my CBT at 16 is cause I really don't wan't to get a ped, as it has been made very clear in my school that anyone who rides a ped in the lowest scum, fit only for ridicule... I really dont need to have to try and deal with that...

Painkillers are the only answer in situations like this, quite a few of em I might add!

I've tried! But the damage has got to such a point where painkillers (even those prescribed by a doctor, and quite powerful ones that leave you feeling a little woozy) just arent working...

Since at the moment my knee is just a constant ache and the pain surges (not flashes, oddly) and dies away slowly when I put pressure on it backdown to its background ache, I really don't want to risk a hard fall on it. I don't think I'll be able to stand the pain, without some pretty embarissing mewling and rolling around on the ground etc. actions

Its fecking shite.

The same happened to me Smile

I haven't injured myself in over a year, and in the 48 hrs before my CBT, i stubbed my middle toe on my left foot on a doorframe taking up the toe nail, and someone smacked a cage into my ankle on my left leg at work, swelling it up.

Luckily by the day I had my cbt, they were bearable.
I swear fate was trying to make me not take that CBT Shocked

No ones going to mock you for using a ped on your CBT!

However if your leg is really playing up as it sounds, just rest it, I know from experiance that they can be aggrevated so easily and cause loads of unnescesery horrible evil nasty pain for a long time Crying or Very sad . It's mega painfull when your knee cap ends up at the back of your leg and the lower half of your leg is pointing back towards you. Really freaked me out when that happened (threw up when I saw it), no amount of gas and air is worth that Shocked . So look after em Wink

Nono! I mean, if I do my CBT on a ped, then I will not know how to do gears and if I have knee deamage the I doubt I will be able to use gears anyway, so will have to use a ped.

Sorry for the misunderstanding...

I'd suggest you do your CBT on a ped, then get hold of a 125 and practice in an empty car park somewhere.

BTW check you PM's

Well, you see this is most of the problem with the diagnosis. I have no idea. I do know its been hurting for a very long time (the earliest time I can actually remember it was when I was 11), but I got a job at Tesco's a few months ago stacking shelves, and the heavy carrying seems to have started it up again. (its been coming and going for years, its just never hurt enough for me to go to the doctors, just 'one of those things' that i've put up with).

One idea the guy had was that a tendon/ligament had ripped, repaired itself, and kept on gettign ripped again as I used it, but he wasn't too sure, so he's sent to to a specialist dude...

Cabbage

edit: Thanks Davo

Dr Cabbage, I know it's a pain (no pun intended) but you really would be better off hanging fire on trying to get through your CBT until you know exactly what's up with your knee and it's (hopefully) all repaired and healed. There's no point trying to struggle through it because it sounds as if - even if you could manage the riding - it will aggravate your knee problem, it means you won't be riding as well as you could, and it could even lead to you falling off and putting yourself off riding for good! I hate to sound all sensible and stuff, but it would be far better if you waited until you're all fit - which will also mean you have far more confidence.

I know that several months will seem like forever - trust me, it's not. In the meantime, even if you can't actually physically ride, you can still learn all the ins and outs of bikes, how they work, why they don't, and basically be a complete smart arse by the time you do get round to your CBT (and you will, honest!). That will probably make you a better and safer rider than if you went straight into your CBT now. It also doesn't stop you being part of a bike scene, through this forum or from going to events and shows.

And oi! Don't go spending the money you've saved on a bloody computer, because you're going to need it for a bike! Thumbs Up
