I'm looking into getting a desktop as my laptop has become out dated and I have an iPad which covers the portability factor so my question is to build or buy
I have the tools at home which would enable me to build and I know I could probably get a better p&c by building so I'm swaying more in that direction
My budget is 6-700 I've seen some deals on eBay for an i7 processor with mobo however as I'm not clued up on components I wanted some advice first
I don't need monitor or mouse

I've built a few in the past, but nowadays they're so cheap off the shelf it's not worth the bother. Anyway it isn't difficult.

Building wins everytime

Deals to be had all the time Thumbs Up
Spec out a PC using PCpartpicker and you can get updates on price reductions.
You can always upgrade and build on whatever you decide on & you've got individual part warranties that I've personally found invaluable.

5 Year CPU
Lifetime RAM
10 Year PSU
3 Year SSD

However if you do decide to buy one prebuilt
PCspecialist.com are excellent & very fairly priced Thumbs Up

Build it. At least you'll know the quality of every part, can buy decent fans etc and then make a tidy job of the cabling inside.

And "tools to build" = two cross head screwdrivers (one small, one medium) Wink

*If you go for a fiddly little SSD, you might need a small cross head as well as a no.2

I don't recommend using a Gigabyte board with the i7. Specifically the X99 UD4/5.
Much aching of testicles.

ive done some discussing with one of my missus friends who knows a thing or two about computers and hes talked me down to the i5 4690k apparently i probably wont feel the benifits of the i7 which is about £100 more he suggests id do better throwing the extra at better components mainly the graphics im slowly compiling a list of parts i want. its tough trying to get what you want and keep it in the price bracket

Part list is empty ... wrong link?

I have that exact same CPU (I5 4690K) and it's perfect for gaming & media. I wouldn't have use for an i7 right now & games are only starting to take advantage.
When that happens, all I'll need to do is pop in a new CPU in a few years Thumbs Up
A decent Motherboard is the Asus Z97-A, I had a few issues with mine to start with, but it works flawlessly now & gives me good control over the fans a standard.
