After returning to motorcycling after a break of over 30 years I popped into my nearest bike shop which happened to be Black Country Motorcycles. I can only say that once they have your money from you they are not nice people to deal with. If I had been treated with courtesy I would be going back to them, but from now on I wouldn't go back there if it was the last shop on the planet. So take care if you buy something from there that turns out to be faulty. I had to go all legal and take in an official letter requesting a refund.

Is this the big place by Jcn 2 of the M5?

If so I've worked at the unit nextdoor, but never seen the place really busy or many people in there either.

If your in the area, have you been down to Streetbike in Halesowen yet? I know they've moved now to the other side of Halesowen now, but I've not yet been to the new premises for a nosey.

Have to admit

I bought a vespa from them in 2009

It had a fault with the immobiliser in the wet
They had lost the franchise by this point and were selling it cheap( didn't realise at time)

They didn't want to know and told me to contact pioaggio UK as they had fuck all to do with them any longer

Also they didn'tput enough fuel in to get to a petrol station

Which is 50 yards up the road but traffic was crap and iIbroke down

Wotcha.

Don't think it is - the place Bertie is on about is where Caldine Autos used to be ( for those of us old enough to remember ) on the main drag between West Bromwich and Dudley.

I've heard bad reports about 'em too - especially when they were Triumph dealers.

This place is in Dudley Port Tipton. The place by junction 2 is MOB ( Ministry of Bikes) and they are pretty good - a fine workshop and very helpful. As matter of interest they are all booked up for work and mots for at least 2 weeks but are planning to take over the next unit as well) I digress

On the 21 of April I purchased a crash helmet and took it back 2 days later after trying it on the bike for about 10 minutes. It didn't fit properly and the lining kept coming out , so I thought I was ok to ask for a refund. I was told that they didn't do refunds on safety items once they had left the shop, and that they couldn't now resell the item. One of their guys suggested I go to Trading Standards - maybe he though this was a smart answer. So I indeed did ring Trading Standards and they told me what to do next.
I returned to the shop on the Sat with a written request for a refund stating my reasons for same. I saw the general manager who treated my like I was a something struck on the bottom of his shoe, but he reluctantly gave a refund.
What saddens me is that if they had treated me fairly ( I am 61 after all) I would have become a loyal customer. My wife pointed out to me that some company's are selling crash hats on the internet, which means obviously that some will have to return them because of various reason; not least being a poor fit. Rolling Eyes

I have always been under the impression that taking back helmets is a bit like trying to return used underwear - salesmen have always been keen to stress 'absolutely no refunds' after you walk off the premises with your new lid. They also always stress the importance of a good fit and will usually bang on about getting tighter than comfy because linings will initially compress.

The linings falling out though should have been something they paid more attention to. Ordinarily you'd expect them to relieve you of your new lid and send it back to the manufacturer for their tuppence worth on the matter, leaving you lidless in the meantime!!!

Good to see they did refund you though, if they were as bad as you say I'd expect them to make you go through the full court hassle.

Hi bertie theres another place to try in brierley hill... west midlands motorcycle centre they have lots of clothing, helmets, boots and gloves at decent prices... and ive just picked up a 2 peice spyke leather suit full armour for 180 quid from nearly 550 quid for the simple reason the white bits on the jacket have discoloured slightly and i wear a hoody over it so oh well...but give them a try as your not that far if your still looking for decent bike gear hth
