Invest in us or we'll de-list you... oh and there is no guarantee that we will ever use you either.

Look at the 10y chart this company looks dead.

Sooooooo ... what about turning the tables ... pay me or I won't sell you any of my goods.

We could take it one step further and say to stores pay me or I won't shop at your store!

All the best ... Barry

Sadly this happens in many industries, not just where food is concerned. The usual tack is to ask suppliers to 'write off' unpaid invoices in return for their continued custom. This is easier accounts-wise than accepting payments and relies on the fact that many suppliers half expect old invoices not to be paid anyway and have begrudgingly taken this into account in their financial planning.

Business are wankers when they do this and it is blackmail pure and simple - don't know if it is illegal though as the supplier can always say no... I lost 2k to a regular customer who did exactly this to me a few years ago.

Businesses that do this are just cunts really aren't they. Because they're also the kind of businesses that are gonna screw over their employees at the first opportunity.

More people would moan if food prices suddenly went up... We enjoy cheap food because of dirty underhanded companies like this.

I'm not on a high wage but I would happily pay more for food if it meant producers and their employees were getting paid more and supermarket employees were paid better as well.

As it is I buy my veg direct from a farm. Same price as a supermarket lower food miles and better quality.

But not many families struggling to feed themselves would agree with that statement.

I invite you to watch the context of that soundbite and tell me whether you disagree with the substance of it.

Most of my clients would be unable to cook a basic meat and two veg meal from scratch. There's a lot of reasons behind this but it is all part of poverty. Poverty is not just about monetary issues. But who gives a shit really. Most people just want to find more ways to not give a shit.

I can.

We had a debate several years ago. on another forum There was a period between 1925 and 1934.

The Unemployment Insurance Act 1930 also played a part.

But individuals of that period who were unemployed got about twice the amount individuals get today in terms of purchasing power.

Personally:

The 1990s.

I was poor at the end of the 90s. While wages were bad think £2.26/h everything was cheap. Housing was... well housing not an investment class rents were pretty low for a room in a share house (£17/wk) you could eat ok from Netto at £7 a week.

I'm not sure people can say the same today. As renting a room in a shared house is £80/wk wages have only tripled (min) and while you can eat at £7 a week it is not as good as you could eat back in the 90s.

And heroes strode the land, wearing the Rose Tinted Glasses of Yore.

Maybe, but it's marginal, and even the poor can afford big TVs now rather than the bakelite wireless sets that we had to make do with in the late 90s. There's still plenty of chicken nuggets and X Factor to go around.

So they are distracted/brainwashed more and get to eat toxins on a regular basis?

Some improvement.

Well, the future is more likely to be Idiocracy than Star Trek.

It doesn't mean that people will be unhappy. Ignorance is... I forget, fortunately.
