2005 CBR 125 vs 2010 CBF 125

Currently I've just paid down for a 2005 CBR 125 with 10K miles but I am having second thoughts and wondering if I should go with a 2010 CBF with 7K miles instead.

Both are the same price, £1699 from a dealer.

This is my second attempt at riding after my first bike a YBR125 was vandalised over a year ago. I liked the YBR125 but the problem I had with it was in the winter it was hard to start as it was the 2005 carb version.


I'm thinking of calling the dealer tomorrow morning and asking them to deliver the CBF125 instead as it is FI instead of carb and I hated fiddling with the choke on my ybr125 and sSome days it just wouldn't start and frustrated the hell out of me, it was just so unreliable in the cold and I am afraid in the winter I will have the same issue with the cbr125.

Can anyone offer a bit of advise on whether they think the CBF125 would be better for me? If the CBR was FI I probably would defintely stick with it... am I making a big deal about nothing?

If anyone thinks I would be making a mistake switching to the CBF125 please give me some advise!

3K miles is hardly a deal breaker get whichever is in better condition.

Prefer the look of the CBR personally.

3k is nowt, plus you have no idea if that was 7k miles of thrashing versus 10k miles of mollycoddling.

You can only go by condition and the usual second hand checklists.

10 year old CBR ought to be a bloomin minter for that money. I doubt you'd get anywhere near in a private sale for it in however many months time. You would get bigger % of your cash back off the CBF.

As to the carb question; Personally I'd rather have a carb. I have never really had any great issues with working a choke in thirty odd years; and they have knobs and screws, you, or a back-street mechanic can twiddle, or even pull the things apart to clean and service, rather than having to plug them into a computer at a main-stealers for umpety £-per hour to be told.. "The Error code says we have to replace X Part" at however many £'s that is, and then they run it up and it tells them they have to replace Y-Part at however many ££'s that is.. to eventually discover, or more likely not, having replaced the entire system bit by bit, you had a little bit of shit on the potentiality tracks!

So, given the CBF's reputation for fuel pumps, and Throttle-Position-sensors, and Honda's Dealers apparent disdain for L-Plate bikes.. I'd say you were between the devil and the deep!

But CBF is probably the better bet.

You're getting bummed bone dry on either of them. You're not buying from a chap named 'Vince' are you?

If I absolutely had to choose I reckon I'd lean towards the CBF, although I'd check it over very carefully first and insist on a test ride. At the first sign of flux rust or if the oil it isn't bang on max or it so much as hesitates on the road, then stick with the CBR.

Mind you, the CBR seems to have a thing for clogging their idle jet, so if that doesn't run sweet as well - it should not require choke to run - say thanks but no thanks.

Please tell me that you're 18. If you're 19+, skip the tiddlers and get a license.

In the end I went with a ybr125!

Decided to get a 2009 ybr125 for £1499. I loved my old carb 2005 ybr125 but the unreliable starting in winter after being left standing for a bit was too much of a headache for me so the 2009 FI version is something I know I will be happy with.
