Open to any 250 stroker, RD, TZR, RGV or whatever. There are no rules...

Monday 6 December at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Leics.

The format will roughly be turn up around 9am ish, sign on and run your bike up the strip. Simple. We'll have a datalogger, and everyone will get the chance to do practise runs then a recorded standing start quarter mile and top speed run over the course of the day (plus as many unlogged runs as you fancy). All figures will be in the feature in the mag. Obviously we'll have a photographer on hand all day, and outstanding bikes (either on performance, looks or with an intersting tale) may be taken to one side for bigger pics.

It won't be a free for all. Bruntingthorpe is a vast open space, but we will not be the only people present – everyone from the boy racer car mags to Triumph and Bentley test drivers use the facility, so we'll be controlling how many bikes are out at a time. Full leathers only, either one-piece or zip-together, and proper boots, gloves and lids. Fuel is not available there, the nearest garage is 5 or 10 miles out. There's a diner we have access to, and it's cheap (huge full breakfast including tea for £3.50). It's always chilly there, too – worth remembering as there may well be a lot of standing around while we organise group pictures, etc.

Most importantly we no longer have a direct link to Mother Nature, so there is no promises on the weather. If it rains, tough, but the surface does dry quite quickly.

The venue is booked, the photographer is ready. All you need to do now is confirm you'll be coming! No vague answers please, we need definites as we can't afford to have half the people not turning up if they get a change of heart because it's a bit cold and damp! Please send your name, bike details and full postal address in your reply, and further details will (probably) be sent out before the day.

My kr1s track bike got a 12.83 with a slightly slipping clutch; that was the best of the three runs I did, so not much practice. Would have got some points if I'd entered the competition that day!

I sold it to a drag racer that already had a (less tuned) KR1s he raced.
