Hi,
As the title suggests, I am having trouble getting service with an iPhone.
It's not mine, but was handed to me to try and sort out.

I have tried 2 different Vodafone (UK) sim cards on this iPhone 6 which is network locked to Vodafone (UK).
The sim cards are seen by the phone but I do not get network access.
Total reset, network settings reset, updated to latest iOS.
Still no joy.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

I'm not insinuating anything, so don't take this the wrong way...

lost / stolen?

If it's been reported as such then it will be blacklisted, as I'm sure you know.

The guy who passed it to me is a genuine, honest member of the community.
Not the type of guy to deal in "hot" stuff.

He bought this from eBay, but thinks the seller may have reported it stolen afterwards.

Fair enough.

That can happen, rather infuriatingly. I've had it in the past - bought second hand phone, worked for a day and then cut off all signal. Might be worth a quick call to Vodaphone to see if they can check the network status and confirm this though, through the IMEI.

Obviously without alerting the fact that you may be in possession of a lost / stolen device that has been sold to your friend Laughing

According to the Apple UK Warranty check tool thingy, it is still covered by Apple until the end of the year.....

Would they just replace it?

Do these have the same issues as the 4-5 with the inductor on the aerial circuit (small blue component that very easily breaks off)?

Ive fixed a fair few 4's where this component has broken off meaning the phone just permanently searches for a network. Can be bodged by putting a blob of solder between the 2 connections or repaired properly by soldering in a new inductor.

I imagine the 6's have gone the way of the 5 where the only way to get to the board is to un-glue the screen, but if nothing else fixes it I suppose its something to check.

On iPhone's if the date and time in not correct it won't display the Network. It may constantly say "Searching...".

If your date and time isn't set correctly trying connecting to your WiFi and setting automatic date and time. Then toggle Airplane mode on and off.

Generally gets them going. Failing that it may be a Coax cable issue or even a board issue itself.

I worked at an Apple Store a few years ago so may have changed, but yes they will replace it with a refurb one for you if it's under warranty. Might be worth taking a couple of SIM cards in with you to prove you've tried different SIMs though? If you book an appointment at your nearest 'Genius' bar they should swap it there and then.

go to settings > carrier
turn off automatic and it'll search for networks.

If it finds any then the rx/tx is working and it is just a blocked imei stopping it registering on the network.

Get it refunded or sell it abroad where it's not blocked.

Is it in a heavy duty case? The lines on the back across the top and bottom are the antennae.

disable auto network selection, let it find networks, select one (that your sim doesnt belong too) then reregister on your propa' network

happens alot at my place when we changed to 4g
