I can't explain why but their desperation to survive at any cost annoys me.

Yup, they're stabbing each other and throwing the weak overboard over food and space on the boat now Rolling Eyes . But I'm
absolutely certain that they will live in harmony with the indigenous people wherever they do end up and
show their laws and customs the respect they are due. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Yeah right, if that's true then I'm Batman. There's a reason nobody wants them, but nobody wants to
stick their head above the parapet and say why that is, me included. For some reason the truth seems to send
happy clappy types into a feeding frenzy.

20,000? And the rest. That's just 50 boatloads of 400. There will probably be that many by the end of June.
They call it opening the floodgates for a reason.

Why don't we just strap Bodyguard to a buoy outside Dover harbour? 30 seconds listening to his shit will have them turning away in droves.

Well primarily because they are sailing from Libya to Sicily and I don't think he can shout that loud.

We should have a cultural exchange scheme. Send our bike thieving neds over to countries in exchange for immigrants. Where we send the neds depends on how they plead. Guilty then they can go somewhere reasonably livable like Nigeria. Take the piss or for serious organised criminal fuckwittery and its Syria or the Central African Republic.

What, you're going to believe the evidence of your own eyes rather than an official statistic written by some political apparatchik living in Biggleswade? I give up.

We had some turn up at work back in the Renault F1 Team days, so 6 years or so ago. The trucks had come back to the factory after a European race and when they parked up and started unloading the gear the storage containers along the bottom of one of the trucks was found to contain more than just pit equipment and tyre warmers.

The guys inside looked terrified as we stood surrounding them and waited for the police to arrive.

Those eyes sound a bit problematic...

I'm going to be controversial. The EU/UK should let them in.

Why? If Europeans do not respect the laws of other nations then why should others respect the laws of the EU and the UK?

There are large numbers of illegal European workers in Asia they come from safe countries and are purely economic migrants.

Funny guy who went for a handjob and refused to pay the £2 (he's Scottish) got himself deported for working on a tourist visa. He some how made out that he's a victim... what did he do? He's now an illegal immigrant in Hong Kong.

How is this different from people coming over from Africa on boats?

Because...

The issue is that free movement of people will only stop voluntarily when Africa is as nice as Europe, or Europe is a shitty as Africa.

For context, this is still apparently preferable to living in Africa:

I don't know quite what these people are expecting when they get into Europe as the majority if not all have zero skills to sell and attitudes towards them are hardening by the day. From the Europeans point of view exactly what value to us are people who have no allegiance towards their own country and leave it when it needs its own to help get it back on its feet, do they have any allegiance to anywhere ? They also bring their own problems with them, different customs, religion (which usually flies directly in the face of the traditional one) and patterns of behaviour that are unacceptable in the host country. Another thing that comes to mind is that the very stability, safety, health, and education systems that more-or-less work in Europe that these people seek could be actually destroyed by their coming here. We are seeing here in the UK the gradual erosion of the benefit system by the Tories, which by the recent election result would seem to be accepted by the majority of the electorate so we must assume that financial aid will become more difficult over time and public opinion could resent 'free rides' being offered. If someone is being paid for not working for it then someone is working without being paid for it and he's (or she's) putting up with a lot of shit to support a 'passenger'.

"These people" are, in the most cases, escaping extreme violence and wish for nothing more than to find a safe haven for themselves and, what's left of, their families. Most will be waiting until their own country stabalises to a position where they can return home. As you say, who in their right mind would want to live here? They probably look to countries like ours for help as they consider us compasionate and civilised unlike some of te barbarians that are trying to wipe them from te face of the earth.

We're talking about political refugees here, not Euro work-migrants.

We'll have to agree to to disagree there on their motives Vincent.
