I caught something on the news last night.
A Nigerian district leader was telling the cameraman something like, we must give Nigeria more $$$ otherwise, they'll all come to the UK claiming asylum and we wouldn't want that...
Even the tone was a direct threat. That's it, we're now just a cash cow.
It felt a bit like a UK citizen being able to claim their pension abroad. Some countries don't want to go to the hassle of going to the UK to collect handouts, they want us to save them the effort and take the handouts to them.

We've poured billions down the African black hole. The main results have been:
 Enabling Africans to breed 80,000+ new Africans (net) each and every day.
Funding their Long Way Up trips to Germoney, $weden and Treasure Island.
The only positive action the West has taken towards Africa in the past 50 years has been to ban DDT by proxy. If they could deal with malaria effectively, there would be another half-a-billion mouths in the swarm.
At this point, we should send Africa nothing but condoms and land mines.

Well if you think about it, the worst the donkey is going to do is create a mountain of shit for someone's rose bed or appear as the star in some xvideos XXX video. From memory, you watch a kid starving on TV, and get yelled at by some champagne socialist in an appeal to, "Just send the fucking money", and 30 something years later you get a boatload of his 6 kids and all their mates yelling "Gibs!" and then rioting if the quality of the gibs isn't to their satisfaction. Not really surprising is it?
Anecdotal tale: Some 15 years ago I was working with a Ghanaian lad, a hard worker, and quite clever. He was telling me about his family. He'd been brought up by his mother after his father had died. His father had been a wealthy government official, and he said when his father died, the extended family had all just come round to his mother's house when he was a kid and taken everything. Being more naive at the time, I asked him how this was possible. He said, "You don't understand. In our country, if they want it, they just come and take it."
I've a feeling that a lot of very well meaning liberals will receive a very good practical education of this cultural difference in the near future.

I read an interview with an aid worker in Africa years ago, he was begging the western nations to Stop sending food aid over to Africa because it is destroying and destabilising the country, has been for decades now.
His take is the local agriculture simply cannot compete with vast quantities of imported aid/food therefore aid comes in, local farming goes out the window. How can it make sense to destroy the agriculture industry in a country suffering perpetual starvation?
This guy was brutally honest, upfront and insistent the reduction and cessation of foreign food aid to Africa is a necessity if the country were to ever stand a chance of self sustainability.
The only logical conclusion I can draw is that the west never wants to see a self sustaining Africa? or the western governments are run by self serving plebs with little care or clue of suffering because this is hardly new information  |

As far as the power elite go, of course they don't. Africa is a useful source of minerals. Eg. In Congo Coltan is a big resource, Coltan = Tantalum Capacitors. It's far easier to control resource extraction, where the natives are busy fighting each other, or so powerless and backward that they're either unaware or incapable of letting you in getting on with business as usual. Also they aren't plebs, you're the pleb, that shops in plebian shitholes like Tesco eating toxic corporate junk. They only live on the finest, that you simply couldn't afford because you're a simple waged pleb, not a power player that pulls the economic and social strings of nations and societies, toppling them like dominoes as they see fit, while the plebs are simply unaware, amused by the simplest meaningless, mindless drivel.
