A guy I worked with... well I assume. It was a couple of years ago, his proof came through just after he had to leave, but he got his job back after re-applying for it. AFAIK it's those who don't have proper ID in the first place, most people have photo ID for this reason. Try opening a bank account with just a birth certificate...

Of course, you'll be able to provide a source for that claim.

Absolutely:

Hansard (Diane Abbot)

Quote:
Let me repeat those costs for the benefit of the Home Secretary: patriotic Commonwealth citizens treated like liars; benefits cut; healthcare denied; jobs lost; and people evicted from their housing. Whether they were deported, refused re-entry or detained, these people were separated from family and friends in breach of their human rights. This was a system where people who had come here, very often as young children, were required to show four pieces of original documentation for each year they were supposedly in this country. Who could have believed that that was a sustainable or fair situation? As I said, the situation we are in is not a surprise to Ministers or their officials because Member after Member has written to the Home Office to try to draw its attention to these cases.

It is clear that the Home Secretary has used the phrase, “compliant environment”, more frequently than she has used the phrase, “hostile environment”, but whether it is compliance or hostility, does she accept that that policy has led to this debacle? She mentioned people who came after 1973 but before 1988. Will it still be her policy that those people have to produce four original pieces of evidence for every year they are here to get the status that is theirs by right?

This is picked up by the BBC

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43795077

Quote:
Part of the problem has been a requirement to provide four pieces of evidence for each year that a person has been in the country.

Quote:
Immigration minister Caroline Nokes told the BBC's Daily Politics programme that the Home Office would no longer ask for four pieces of evidence for each year of residence.

This is picked up by the Daily Mirror

Some government committee of some kind. Yvette Cooper questioning Amber Rudd about it

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/under-fire-home-secretary-amber-12422690

Daily mail mentions the evidence requirements.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5629973/Windrush-scandal-shows-EU-protect-citizens-rights.html

But they don't say how many pieces.

The UK government websites say balance of probabilities. But itself does not state numbers.

Crikey, Al Beeb are going a bit off script. Nigerian doctors and engineers are giving up on their dreams of becoming productive, law abiding Europeans and heading home.

Well, not by themselves, obviously. On free flights, given free money, free accomdation, and free job training, paid for by EU taxpayers. At £1,000,000 per migrant, by my calculations.

And going back to families who don't want them, since they failed to make it to Germoney, $weden and Treasure Island and, uh, "earn" their fortune.

No wonder the article author didn't put their name to it. It's a wonder that it slipped through the filter, even on a slow bank holiday Monday.

But, you know, 3,000 out of 700,000 (Nigerians, in Libya). It's a start, of a sort, in many ways.

Not sure about that one Diane Thinking

I thought they were paying smugglers a lot more than that (from reports), I realise it's probably a small fortune in Nigeria.

More than 3,000 Nigerian migrants have already returned

£3,000,000,000 / 3,000 = £1,000,000.

For various values of "partly" and "more than". We're in that bawwpark though.

She paid it twice?

Thing is, all taxation is theft, and this is a bogus decision. Lily Allen needs to build an extension and give her fuge.

But we were talking about 700,000 Nigerian doctors and engineers, so what's the relevance?

£3,000,000,000 has been stolen from EU taxpayers.

3,000 doctors and engineers have been bribed to go and enrich Nigeria.

To date, that's the value for money that we've actually received, in a factual sense, in the real world. £1,000,000 per doctor-engineer.

These schemes tend to blow through their cash in a few years, regardless of what (if anything) they achieve. After all, if you don't spend it, you don't get to demand more.

See also paying the Turk-geld. Say, another three billion rinsed from us! Is that the minimum amount that we get shaken down for?

Three billion here, three billion there, pretty soon you're talking about real money.

Maybe you should, as your article also said:
'More than 3,000 Nigerian migrants have already returned, and a further 20,000 are due to do so this year.'

The final figure might be better than the alternative of housing etc. for migrants. Anyway isn't this why we voted to leave the EU? Eh?

And the cheque's in the post and I'll only put the tip in.

If true (also, I won't spooge in your mouth), that represents 6 hours of African fecundity, so yay us.

M.C wrote:

I wasn't going to bring that up, but it may well be that £1,000,000 per fighting age male Dr Engineer is a bargain.

The alternative is a lifetime of those strengthening Dr Engineer Benefits, and family reunification because dem rites.

However, given that Africa spawns 80,000 extra new mouths each and every day, how many can we fob off nicely at a million quid a pop?

I thought the money going to Turkey, Libya is more about appeasement for them sort of holding back the flood. The alternative is that they wave everybody through and then we'd be truly f**ked, rather than you know being partially f**ked.

Police Scotchland are ignoring the immigration status of illegals if they claim to be the victims of crime.

Not quite how Al Beeb phrase it: they seem to be having a paddy over most UK police forces actually doing their jobs rather than being flim flammed with Poor Little Victim stories.

I particularly like the part about demanding asylum in the UK for an illegal who claims to have been used as a domestic slave in the UK by a UK citizen.

Clearly we're not a safe country then. So sorry, please look elsewhere. Perhaps Canadia can offer you asylum from the institutionally racist, hazardous UK. Maybe Zambia, I hear they're big into lecturing us on oomin rites.

Swedish ("Swedish") girls being taken abroad to be married off or carved up are told to put a spoon in their underwear as a signal to airport perv scanners to HALP! them[*].

Oh, Swede-

"The idea comes from British charity Karma Nirvana, which said the tactic had already saved a number of girls in Britain from forced marriage"

-nnnnever mind.

First world third world problems.

[*] Depends on who's doing the scanning, though.

HuffPo, 2014: Romanians won't swarm into the UK, only Hitler would predict 385,000 Romanians + Bulgarians by 2019.

ONS 2018: 411,000 Romanians have swarmed into the UK.

I mean, based on the farcical IPS which just asks a tiny sample at large airports where they're from and whether they intend to stay indefinitely, and then believes their answers. Small airports and Chunnel swarmers don't even get asked.
