When refugees were genuine, and before lawyers were aware this would be open to abuse by their more mercenary brethren?

It's the ECHR and the lawyers who are paid massive sums of money who make it hard to do anything about it. If we left the ECHR, we'd have a chance.

And who wrote that law at the end of wwII?

Hint: it wasn't the ec or the eu or any other conglomeration of European states.

That's interesting. So once a law is written, you don't believe it should ever be changed? No matter how much the world changes, we must stick with all old laws forever? How far back do you think that should go?

I notice you didn't deny being a civil servant staying at home doing sweet fa Laughing

No, you're definitely doing sweet fa Laughing

How far back do you want to go with laws that can't be changed?

You can carry on blaming them for every little thing (I stubbed my toe this morning...bloody Tories! Laughing ), but it won't get you anywhere.
You're the one suggesting that laws can't be changed.

I said nothing of the sort. I just pointed out that the law that you take offence of was atcually written by the British at the end of the second world war.

Oh, ok, so your post was pointless in the context of what I said before it. Thought so.
Let's get out of the ECHR!

I’m thinking of pitching up at some foreign land and saying, “I’m here now, you have to look after me.” I expect short shrift.

Oh I see its the "they cost us a fortune" gripe. How much do you think it costs the country having an agent of a foreign power sitting in No10? Because that's exactly what Sunak is. The immigrants as a drain on our resources spiel is just a neo-lib distraction from the activities of the real thieves.

That is essentially the reason the "Conservative" party exists. By definition they (the Tories) are conservative. Although being a bunch of sniveling hypocrites theyre happy to wave their libertarian values whilst simultaneously crafting new public order laws to curtail any public disent.

We’re a wealthy country (by virtue of graft and enterprise) so maybe you’re right in that we could provide for the freeloaders pitching up illegally, but you know wealth isn’t evenly distributed and it’s the existing needy who will suffer.

Agent of a foreign power? How so?

Where did he work before becoming an MP? Do you really think he's not still working for them now? Seriously.

So the Chancellor of The Exchequer (at Number 11) knows something about the financial markets? Admittedly they’re all bookies by another name but that’s no surprise.

They only work for themselves. He’s not in Wall St. now. I think it’s likely he got rich quick and then granted himself a guilty conscience or a desire to appear virtuous. He’s unlikely to ‘get it’ though. Parliament needs fewer money-men, lawyers and heirs, and more ‘ordinary people’ who understand what life is like for the majority. Not even Labour has those, or if they do they’ve forgotten and ‘taken the shilling.’

Trouble is, even ordinary folk have a tendency to be corrupted by power and take a bung when offered. What we need is more honest people who can look further than a parliamentary term...

Maybe make the pension, the salary and the expenses less attractive so only those most earnestly motivated politically will stay the course. A naive hope, I know,

You think pay rates are aligned with work value in any sphere? It’s all screwed.

It's almost as if by constantly blaming the Tories for everything you thought you were getting at me Laughing
I'm not "a conservative". I'm not a socialist. I'm not a liberal. I'm not even really that political at all. I just recognise pure stupidity when I see it, and I see it in all parties. And nailing your colours to one mast or the other also exemplifies that stupidity, as is seeing everything in life in political terms.

I dont blame the Tories its the right wing neo lib doctrines their leadership follow. The Labour party under Blair and Brown are just as culpable. I personally believe we need a broad spectrum of politics and we lack that and conservative voters have allowed their party to be taken over by a cult of corporate communists. The conservative party has been indulged for too long by apologists. Hang em their bloody traitors selling our country out to a bunch of global oligarchs.

But you think the Labour Party now are better?!
I'm thinking of voting Reform UK. They seem to me to make more of the right noises than everyone else at present, although it's difficult to be sure because they're still pretty low profile. And I do wonder if they might be too business oriented. But I can't vote for either Labour or the Tories as they stand at present.
What I won't do is vote for anyone in the mistaken belief they can solve everyone's problems. You can't rely on governments to do everything for you, nor should you expect them to be able to. What we need is LESS government, not more.

Btw, do you need me to point out to you the incongruity of "right wing neo-lib" and "corporate communists"?

We need government though, not populist clowns.

I thought you were familiar with neo liberalism and its facilitating of the right. Yes its a misleading term because people assume "liberal" means left but in neo liberalism its meaning applies more to the concept that certain areas of activity that governments would usually regulate should be given free reign. Its a mandate to give power to corporate and financial elite powers.

Have you never heard the term corporate communism? Maybe you should look into it.
