Truss knew she would be taking over from a guy who won a massive majority based on 'get Brexit done'. Brexit would have been a stupid hill to die on... even by her standards.

I'm not sure what we're weighing up here? During the EU referendum we had a remain PM, with the governments position being to remain. Following his departure we had a remainer PM, who negotiated a... well someone on here still has me blocked cos I called it a remoaner deal Laughing

Then Bojo came in, and after 6 months we were out having resolved apparent red lines in apparently impossible timescales.

Not really Smile Regarding the government and their anti-immigrant rhetoric, I explained it in my first reply. They only care about 'illegal' immigration, anything else is the usual lip service that they know will resonate with voters (eg: like Starmer recently).

The fact they seem to have made up for the drop in EU immigration with RoW, surely only goes to prove the Conservatives are a mass immigration party?

Conveniently there's hardly any illegal immigration into this country. The swashbucklers are all asylum seekers Rolling Eyes

The politicians, journos and wets keep on referring to the ‘people smugglers’ as the problem when in fact the illegal immigrants with their cash aren’t victims, they’re knowing and eager customers.

UK net migration hit 504,000 in the year to June - the highest figure ever recorded, The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates.

Half a fcuking million in six months. Anyone would think we are a big country with lots of space. Rolling Eyes That's more than the population of Bristol PLUS the population of Portishead. Bloody ridiculous amounts of people.

250,000 of them are students!

The 500,000 does not include those that entered by illegal means.

Just under 40% of whom stay: https://www.migrationwatchuk.org/briefing-paper/508/student-immigration-to-the-uk

I've known lots of people who used a student visa to get into Britain and never left.

Not sure the Tories can do simple math TBH. With Brexit they have kicked out several hundreds thousands high tax paying tex net contributing EU migrants like me and got 500 000 tax net debtors Laughing

The facts are EEA migrants have had positive tax contribution and the non-EEA migrants are tax net debtors, £2198 multiplied by 500 000 that is £1,099,000,000 new budget hole for ya:

Quote:
The most thorough study of the fiscal contribution of migrants was recently
published by a team at University College London (UCL). It covered the period
2001-2011. It shows that, over the 11-year period: (i) recent European Economic
Area (EEA) migrants (who came here after 2000) made a positive net
contribution of £2,732 per person per year; (ii) non-recent, non-EEA migrants
were net debtors at minus £2,198 per person per year;

Or maybe the situation is even worst tax wise:

Good luck getting tax contributions from a student Laughing

Kicked out? What nonsense. You chose to leave. Why? Money, I’ll bet.

Poles (at the time our most significant immigrant community, I believe) were already starting to return home before Brexit as prospects in Poland increased thanks to the EU’s net contributors. Angelic

Recent suggestions that the UK government might limit the intake of foreign students seems more like an easy but possibly counter-productive way for the Home Office to only appear to be controlling immigration. It’s the illegals they need to send straight back though.

Bizarrely, it’s been suggested that the immigrants at the formerly overcrowded Manston reception centre could be entitled to compo! We really are a soft touch. Doh! After all, we let Val in. Laughing

So what now are you brexplaining to me why I left Laughing

Money are better, but that was a bonus I would have probably stayed and paid taxes in the UK, for 2 reasons:

Speaking German is a pain in the proverbial or as they say here one life is not enough to learn it Laughing

The second reason is when you live in a place more then 15 years you create a life for you got friends etc. so it is not so easy to move.

Having said that no way I would live in a country that treats me like some kind of second class citizen. That is the main reason I have left. And this is the main reason most of other people have left. I have plenty of friends that have done the same.

And this is the main reason why EU citizens are not keen to go work in the UK anymore.

Quote:

Whatever the overriding reason, EU doctors said Brexit dented their personal and professional lives and left them ‘no longer feeling welcome in the UK’. “I felt like an immigrant for the first time in 15 years” and “…there seems to be no appreciation for me as a doctor”

Good luck with getting tax contributions or NHS doctors for all your pensioners Laughing

You obviously missed the discussion above.

Sounds like you're saying they're a drain on this country Val Wink

The British people don't care how well 'the economy' is doing when they can't afford somewhere to live, get a doctors appointment, or find a local school place.

Had successive governments cared at all about those things maybe people would have felt and voted differently (just a thought).

This is Britain famous for its class system Laughing

The pound dropped in value post-referendum making working here for 6 months, and then returning with most of their money (not spent in the British economy) less attractive.

It's "passport control officers" at airports who're going on strike so arrivals by inflatable boats won't be affected.

As usual the military are indeed picking up the slack but they are getting a few days training on how to be border force passport control. https://inews.co.uk/news/border-force-strikes-temporary-staff-airport-walkouts-national-security-2015929

Are the Navy still planning to stop operating their taxi service in the new year?

It’s been openly stated that the authorities’ response on both sides of the Channel is to ‘save lives at sea.’ Deterrence doesn’t even seem to be a consideration. Any suggestion of criminality is reserved for the ‘people-smuggling gangs.’ Do they even exist?
