I live in the middle of Ramsgate, id just got back into bed when it struck. The noise was incredible, like the roof was caving in and the whole house shook.
It lasted about 4 to 5 seconds, and just after you could hear people coming out into the street, saying "what the fuck was that!" Laughing

I know it had to be scary for some, and no doubt costly as well but I had to laugh at the news report which said : "Kent Earthquake shakes homes; some residents woken"

Ooo, I was looking at the possibility of renting a property in Wickhambreaux only just yesterday.

Might give it a miss until that bit falls off, see what's left, might be able to rent again, but in Rowling-by-the-Sea Laughing

If anyone's interested, here's a Link to EQ mapping; https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/
It's USA orientated but does cover the globe, just move out/drag across/zoom as necessary.

What makes me laugh is people in Chatham all claiming to have been woken up by it and had all their stuff falling out of cupboards. Laughing

On holiday in Turkey some 10 years ago, me and the then GF slept through an actual proper tremor in Antalya.
We woke up one morning and our bed was in the middle of the room but we went to bed a bit drunk and frisky if you know
what I mean and wondered if we had a particularly energetic paralytic drunk sesh because all inclusive.
Could have sworn that the bed was against the wall when we went to sleep. Went down to breakfast and
all the other guests were raving about the "earthquake" Laughing pair of pissheads we slept through the whole thing,
including the fire alarm that also went off during the tremor. Gutted I missed it tbh, must have been a pretty reasonable
rumble if the bed moved 4 feet with the two of us in it.

Rattled the windows and sounded like a train thundering past my front door in Ashford but no damage, cat nearly shat herself though. Can't see stuff falling off shelves in Chatham, prob trying it on with the house insurance. Did wonder for a second if IS had bombed the international station or Dungerness had done the big magic mushroom.

it was definately more violent than the 2007 one we had but a much shorter duration, the 2007 was fast shaking this was about 10 hard slow shakes, its not really how hard its more the duration that does the damage.

Didnt feel an aftershock but 4.3 mag its unlikely itll be felt here (deal)

I remember that one. I was doing a nightshift and one of the inner deviding walls was shaking. At the time I though it was the machinery making it shake as I couldn't remember if it normally shook. Then at lunchtime someone told me we had an Earthquake.

Those caravans aren't too stable anyway and the overhead locker catches are crap!

It woke me up, at the time I had no clue what had happened, assumed it was the cat bouncing about on the bed.
