'90-'91 GPZ500S "Rattling"

I've been trying to find out what is causing this rattling noise for a while now on my little project bike. I've had a thought that it may be the cam chain but i wanted to get a few other opinions before i do anything.

To answer a few questions:
- It makes the noise regardless of whether it is idling or being throttled.
- It makes the noise at all road speeds, it just gets muted a bit by the ambient noise. It is very noticeable when i ride along near a wall.
- It is a '90-'91 GPZ500 and has done about 35,000 miles with a total of 18 previous owners. Hence why I have decided to make it into a project bike.

If anyone can help me with what it may be I would be really grateful as this is the next thing on my list to work on.

It's primary chain rattle.

They all do that and it's not a problem.

Balancing the carbs will quieten it down.

To go with the above, the primary chain doesn't have a tensioner. It is also a pain to replace.
