just a quick one (story of my life) I'm wanting to paint my wheels, not to look top notch but to tidy them up. They are alloy rims with stainless spokes. The spokes have buffed up perfect but the alloy has seen better days! Basically I was going to rub them down with wire wool them paint just the rim part with brush on Hammerite, simple question: will this paint on ok, with just a rub down/good clean?

Pics would help but you'll at least need to use an etch primer on the aluminium and if it's polished it'll need keying / scratching up quite well before that if you want anything to stick to it.

I've been trying to post pics but the file size is always too big, no idea how to reduce the file size. If they need etch primering I might just leave them, I know it's lazy but I just want a cheap run-around.

Will they not just do with a good clean up?

Easiest way to get pics in posts is to upload them to a free site like photobucket and just link to them Wink

Meh - I run ad / cookie / tracker blockers so don't see any of that, never had a prob with PB and never seen any ads or pricing packages but then don't upload a huge amount

Doubt op gives a shit about that anymore than his wheels though Laughing

Gotta say when I've finally tracked down a solution to my current issue of the week, say "how to remove X from Y without the £££ tool!" on some backwoods bike specific forum... it normally ends up being very few words, or "picture explains all" followed by a string of imageshack/photobucket "missing image" images.. and is very annoying Very Happy

Plus.. photobucket is blocked at work, imgur is not,. Viewing for me is a bit hit and miss on this forum, and praise alah when somebody opted for imgur over the others.

Oh yeah, the wheels...

Sorry, I absolutely hate painting, and the prep work even more so. Not much help, apologies.
