I've seen an advert for the same phone as mine with the same provider for the same money on the same tariff but now with an extra 1gb of data.
I've had my phone for about 8 months I think.
I realise contracts change etc but I'm slightly miffed at what's available now compared to what I pay for.
So, I gave them a call to see if I could have the same deal but I suppose not really expecting any kind of result.
No luck.
I've only ever been with one mobile provider and I have all my media with them so I thought they might take that into consideration.

It's still quite a lot of dosh to buy out so that's not really an option.

What would/could you do?

You don't ask you don't get.

I'd ring up their cancellations department at renewal time and they will ask why you want to leave. Outline what happened and see what 'offer' suddenly appears on their screen.

You agreed to a contract. You shouldn't expect to get out of it. All you can do is ask, which you have done, followed by wait till it runs out then see what your options are then.

Does this go the other way? If, 8 months after you have your deal, they decide to sell the same phone with the same provider for the same money on the same tariff but now with less data, would you expect them to take that extra data away from you?

Always worth asking, but you're owed nothing.

It was more of a hopeful post really, just to see if there was anything I could say that I hadn't already thought of.

I'll invest in a straw.

I went back to the same shop to ask for the same deal I had got a week before for an identical phone for my wife; she got double the data (4GB compared to 2GB) for £1 more a month.

Stop your whinging.

So threaten to cancel as within cooling off period, or tell them to do the logical thing and apply the deal?

Read the conditions of your contract. I'm pretty sure you are allowed to terminate the contract, with some sort of sanction - contractual fine.

I'd do as others basically say, tell them you are leaving them for better conditions, they will try to keep you as a customer. I've done this, seen this and heard about this many times before.

Read the conditions, find the termination of the contract section.

Is that so? Thinking

Contractual freedom + protection of the weaker party, within the EU law is pretty cool thing when it comes to contracts between an undertaking and a customer. Thumbs Up
